2021: Capsule car with diagonal location

On November 16, 2021, the National Center industrial design for Innovation and Innovation "" 2050. LAB announced that it had developed a design for the concept of a capsule car with a diagonal location. It was called "Christmas Tree" and completed a layout triad, which is considered as an alternative to traditional cars.

The project was commissioned by TMX, a major developer and manufacturer of rail transport in Russia and the CIS.

The concept was presented to the Minister of Transport of the RFVItalian Savelyev, the General Director of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov and the General Director of Transmashholding Kirill Lipa.

The project got its name due to the special placement of sleeping places: individual coupe capsules are located in two tiers at an angle and form a structure in the form of a "Christmas tree" on the plan. This arrangement makes it possible to include a large number of places in the car: from 52 to 58 depending on the volume of service areas. The level of passenger comfort, according to the company, will only increase.

A sleeping place in a car of the "Christmas tree" type is an individual coupe capsule, separated by a wall and a curtain from a common corridor. When traveling in such a car, passengers of the upper and lower tiers receive an elongated sleeping place, a window, a table and a place for luggage. Some interior elements perform two functions at once. For example, a staircase with built-in cushions and projections is also a resting support for standing, and the space under the table is used to accommodate the feet of an adjacent passenger.

"The main feature of Christmas Tree is the autonomy of capsules. Inside them there is everything you need: a place to sleep, a table to eat or work, your own set of charging stations for gadgets, hangers and wall pockets for storing things. Additional baggage niches are provided under the ceiling of the car, and a longitudinal shelf is tested for suitcases and bags of upper passengers, "-

notes chief designer "2050.LAB" Alexei Sharshakov.

The design of the concept involves the use of environmentally friendly and wear-resistant materials: metal, wood, plastic, skin substitute. This approach to production and economic attractiveness for buyers, which is achieved due to the optimal level of comfort at an affordable price, will make train travel more popular among the population, and therefore reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. After all, according to studies, the train produces on average five times less carbon dioxide than an airplane on the same route.

The presented layout, like the rest of the triad "modular-longitudinal-Christmas tree," is made in the size of T - with increased, in comparison with standard rolling stock, width and length of the car. The length of the passenger compartment in this case increases by 290 cm, and berths - by 12 cm.

Models of modular and longitudinal cars have already been presented to the public. The modular concept is based on the placement in some coupes of modular structures for storing luggage, upper clothes,. footwear The main thing in the longitudinal car is also a coupe capsule, which is located differently from in the "Christmas tree." The whole triad is considered as an alternative to traditional cars. It is supposed to use such solutions as part of a night train time from a journey of up to 12 hours.
