On October 21, 2019 United Parcel Service (UPS) announced start of the program of delivery of medicines by means of unmanned aerial vehicles. For this purpose one of the largest American logistic companies began cooperation with pharmaceutical giant CVS Health.
The division of Flight Forward is responsible for projects with participation of UAVs in UPS. Originally it will deliver medicines to the house in one or two American cities. In what, it is not specified.
Flight Forward will work with new clients in other industries to develop additional solutions for a wide range of projects of the last mile and an urgent delivery — the director of strategy and transformation of business of UPS Scott Price noted. |
UPS already has some experience in transportation of medical loads thanks to partnership with WakeMed to which rendered transport services. However the goods delivery drones – a task is far more difficult. UPS is going to extend by air broader spectrum of different goods.
Earlier in October, 2019 UPS got from the authorities approval on commercial use of drones, having outstripped in this Amazon and Google.
At the same time regulators continue development of rules of how unmanned aerial vehicles will be in airspace of the USA. In 2021 adoption of these rules is expected.
On October 21, 2019 Flight Forward announced cooperation with Matternet within which delivery of biological samples and other load in campuses at Utah State University will be performed.
Besides, Flight Forward began partnership with the pharmaceutical distributor of AmerisourceBergen which will use drones of UPS for moving of drugs, supplies and documents to some medical [1]
