Software developer for special services Palantir received a contract from the US Army through a court

Customers: US Army (Ground Forces)

Project date: 2016/10

At the end of October 2016, it became known that Palantir Technologies received a major contract to create an information management system for the needs of the American army. The company secured an agreement through the court.

This is a contract related to the development of the integrated intelligence platform DCGS (Distributed Common Ground System), which collects and analyzes data from various sources, such as unmanned aerial vehicles, satellites, telephone recording systems, biometric systems, NSA databases, etc. The development of the system began back in 2001, more than $6 billion was invested in it.

The DCGS system has been criticized more than once due to delays in the implementation of the project and low product efficiency. The military itself recognizes the existence of a number of problems in the work of the platform. In the tender documentation for the development of the next version of DCGS, the army command promised to consider all initiatives and proposals of the industry.

According to Bloomberg news agency, Palantir will develop the remaining DCGS components and will become a key manufacturer of new versions of the system. According to preliminary data, the contract value will be about $200 million.

Earlier in 2016, Palantir sued the US Army over its refusal to purchase commercial IT products. On October 31, the Federal Court of Claims ruled that military structures violated the 1994 law requiring government agencies to search for commercial products before starting the development of a particular technology from scratch.
