Customers: Tokyo Smoke Contractors: Uber Project date: 2021/11

Uber will allow users in Ontario, Canada, to place cannabis orders on its Uber Eats app, marking the giant's invasion of a fast-growing business, a company spokesman said in November 22, 2021. Customers can place orders in the Uber Eats app, and then pick them up at the nearest Tokyo Smoke store.
Uber, which already supplies alcohol through its Eats division, has long targeted the growing cannabis market. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told the media in April 2021 that the company will consider supplying cannabis when it becomes clear in the United States how the law will operate.
Since the adoption of the law on June 19, 2018 on the legalization of recreational cannabis throughout the country, Canada has been trying to rectify the situation in the marijuana market, in which illegal producers still control a significant share of the total annual sales.
The partnership will help adult Canadians acquire safe, legal cannabis, helping fight the underground illegal market, which still accounts for more than 40% of all sales of non-medical cannabis in the country, Uber reports.
Global cannabis stock tracker MJ ETF rose 2%, while Uber shares rose 1.2% to $44.78 in premarket trading on November 22, 2021.
According to industry research firm BDS Analytics, cannabis sales in Canada will amount to $4 billion in 2021 and are projected to grow to $6.7 billion in 2026.
When asked about the possibility of expansion to other provinces in Canada or the United States, an Uber spokesman said that "there is nothing to talk about at present."
We will continue to closely monitor the rules and opportunities in each market. And as local and federal laws develop, we will explore opportunities with sellers who work in other regions.[1] |
