SpaceX launch to ISS with tourists

On May 21, 2023, at 17:37 US East Coast time (May 22 at 00:37 Moscow time), a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with a manned spacecraft Crew Dragon was launched from the launch complex of the Kennedy Space Center 39V at Cape Canaveral in Florida. The device went to the International Space Station as part of the Axiom (Ax-2) commercial program.

The crew of the ship consists of four people. Peggy Whitson, an American biochemist, NASA astronaut and the first woman to be ISS commander, was chosen as commander. She spent 665 days in space - more than any other American or any other woman. The functions of the pilot were taken over by John Shoffner, an American race car driver, investor and entrepreneur. In addition, astronauts from Saudi Arabia Ali AlQarni and Ryan Barnawi are on board. Moreover, Barnaui will be the first Saudi woman ever to be in space.

Mission crew Ax-2

Space tourists will spend eight days aboard the orbital complex, during which they will work together with the station's permanent crew. At the same time, the mission participants will Ax-2 be able to perform their own experiments. One of them is organized by the Institute for Translational Research of Space Health (TRISH): it includes a series of tests to measure and assess the vital signs of the participants' own bodies. The purpose of the experiment is to better understand how inexperienced astronauts respond to microgravity conditions.

In total, the Ax-2 team will conduct research on more than 20 projects. They cover a variety of areas: from medicine and health care (the study of DNA and malignancies) to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.[1]
