2016: Fight of IBM against a Zika virus
On July 27, 2016 the IBM company announced plans to provide the technologies and resources to help to monitor spread of a virus of a Zika disease, transfers Reuters news agency.
Brazilian scientific Fund of Osvaldo Cruz (Fiocruz; the leading research institute connected with the Ministry of Health of Brazil) is going to use the software of IBM for the analysis of different data on a virus — from official information on movements of sick people to mentioned in social networks separate cases of infection.
Zika disease — the acute infectious disease widespread in Africa, North and South America, Asia and the Pacific region. Disease symptoms — fever, skin rash and conjunctivitis. By the end of July, 2016 of a special complex of treatment and the vaccine against a Zika virus does not exist.
In 2016 the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized that quickly extending virus of a Zika disease is global threat, and announced introduction of an emergency rule. Then WHO warned that the virus can extend over all countries of the New World, except for Canada and Chile. According to forecasts of the organization, infected in the territory of North and South America there can be about 4 million people.
IBM gives any support in fight against this virus. At the end of July, 2016 the company announced intentions to provide to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) the platform for collection of information about daily rainfall, average temperature and humidity which are key factors of distribution of mosquitoes carriers of a Zika virus. This project is to a large extent focused on Brazil.
Besides, together with the New York Institute of a research of an ecosystem of Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies biological and ecological data with the purpose of algorithm elaboration, allowing to define what primacies are virus carriers began to collect and analyze IBM.
At last, IBM supported the project under the name OpenZika started within an initiative of World Community Grid (its participants voluntarily agree to load software which involves not used computing powers of their computers and mobile devices).[1]
