2023: Launch
On October 10, 2023, the world's largest offshore wind farm platform, Dogger Bank, was launched, which is under construction by this date. It first began supplying electricity to the power system. Britain Investments in the project are estimated at $11 billion.
The 3.6 GW Dogger Bank wind farm is being set up 130 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast. The project is being implemented in three stages: the Dogger Bank A, B and C phases, each of which involves the commissioning of 1.2 GW of capacity. The completion of all queues is scheduled for 2026. In its final form, the platform will combine 277 giant offshore turbines capable of producing enough clean energy to meet the needs of approximately 6 million average households annually. Dogger Bank will deliver annual CO2 reductions equivalent to phasing out 1.5 million vehicles.
The launch of the power plant followed the installation of two 13 MW GE Vernova Haliade-X turbines in September 2023. These installations, approximately 260 meters high, are mounted in the sea for the first time in the world. Each revolution of their 107-meter blades allows you to generate the amount of energy that will be enough to power an ordinary British household for two days.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that putting Dogger Bank into operation would strengthen the country's energy security, create additional jobs and reduce electricity bills for citizens. The Dogger Bank platform is being developed and built by the British company SSE Renewables in cooperation with Norwegian Equinor and Vårgrønn (a joint venture between Eni Plenitude and HitecVision). Moreover, Equinor will become the operator of the station, the service life of which is estimated at 35 years.[1]
