At the end of 2024, more than 100 water parks with a total area of about 1.3 million square meters operate in Russia. Such facilities operate in 46 regions in all federal districts of the Russian Federation. Industry trends are addressed in the NF Group study, which TAdviser reviewed in early September 2025.
Analysts note that in Russia the water park market began to form in 1997, when the Dolphin open-air water and entertainment complex was launched in the Krasnodar Territory. Peaks of discoveries of water parks were recorded in 2001-2005, when more than 20 such objects were launched in five years, and in 2012-2017, which accounted for more than 50 launches. In 2024, only one complex was commissioned - the Psydunai water park in the Republic of Adygea.
From a geographical point of view, the largest market share is concentrated in the regions of the Southern Federal District - 63% in terms of area and 40% in terms of the number of water parks. The leaders are the Krasnodar Territory, the Republic of Crimea and the Rostov Region. Most of the operating water parks in Russia are represented in settlements with a population of less than 1 million people - 73% of the area. Million-plus cities and metropolitan regions account for a total of 27% of the supply. Moreover, out of 16 cities with a population of one million in Russia, water parks are present only in ten, which indicates the potential for market development.
The authors of the study identify three types of water parks - indoor, outdoor and mixed. As of 2024, their shares in quantitative terms were 44%, 42% and 14%, respectively. At the same time, open-type water parks (64%) are leading in the structure in terms of area by a significant margin, which is due to their large scale: the average area of such objects is 18.7 thousand square meters against 7.1 thousand for indoor complexes.[1]
