1965: PepsiCo absorbs Frito-Lay

Historical merge of The Pepsi Cola Company and producer of salty snack Frito-Lay took place in 1965 — the modern company PepsiCo so was born. The key role in merge of two companies was played at that time by the vice president of the company Don (Donald) Kendall who, by the way, possesses the idea of deployment of business of the company in the USSR.

1962: The Fritos chips are on sale in 48 countries

By 1962 the Fritos chips were on sale in 48 countries.

1961: Two producers of chips integrate in Frito-Lay Company

In 1961 Lay Company and Frito Company, closely cooperating last 16 years, made the decision to create the joint Frito-Lay Company which became afterwards the leader of the American market of snack products.

Frito-Lay opened the first research laboratory which staff carefully monitored quality of production and developed new products.

1956: Lay's - the largest producer of chips in the USA

By 1956 became Lay's Potato Chips the largest producer of potato chips and salty snack in the USA. The potato Lay's Potato Chips chips, a main product of the company, became favourite chips of Americans.

1944: Lei passed to the Lay's Potato Chips brand

In 1944 the Leu transferred production of potato chips to the Lay's Potato Chips brand.

1938: Lei sells the enterprises in Atlanta and Memphis for $60 thousand

In 1938 the management of Barret Food suggested Lei to purchase the enterprises of the company in Atlanta and Memphis for 60,000 US dollars.

1934: Herman Lei creates large distributor of food

In 1932 Herman V. Lei worked as the direct-sales representative — was engaged in sale and the product delivery of Barret Food company which produced the Gardner chips. In 1934 he hired the first employee, and in a year his company became one of the largest distributors.

1933: Start of production Fritos on pipelines in Houston and Dallas

Fritos very much were pleasant to buyers, and within several months the company achieved phenomenal success. By the end of 1933 chips began to make on pipelines in Houston and Dallas, and transferred the headquarters to Dallas.

1932: Elmer Dulin starts handicraft work of the corn Fritos chips

The history of Frito-Lay is story of two vigorous businessmen Elmer Doolin and Herman Lea (Herman W. Lay). Each of them in the early thirties decided to be engaged in production of chips, Doolin – corn, and Lei — potato.

In 1932 the entrepreneur Elmer Dulin redeemed for 100 dollars from the owner of small cafe in San Antonio the recipe of the corn Fritos chips, the equipment and contacts of 19 clients. It was pleasant to it that such idle time in production and an inexpensive product can be such tasty.

The headquarters of the new chipsovy company was arranged directly in kitchen of mother of Dulin. Sales made from 8 to 10 dollars, and profit was about 2 dollars a day.
