On August 26, 2022, it became known about the departure from Russia of the German holding Laurens Spethmann, which produces tea and sugar substitutes under the Milford brand. The company sold its Russian subsidiary to its CEO Ilya Blinov.

RBC reports on the change of ownership of Milford LLC by reference to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. Dmitry Vostrikov, executive director of the Rusprodsoyuz association, which includes Milford, told the publication that Milford moved production to Russia as part of import substitution back in 2014, and continues to supply products to the Russian market by August 2022.

The Milford tea brand was popular in Russia in the 2000s, when the manufacturer launched large advertising campaigns, Chanturia said. However, now the volume of consumption of brand products is very small. The expert stressed that the tea market in Russia is very competitive and has many large players, so even the departure of such a well-known brand as Lipton will not affect it.

The Milford tea brand was popular in Russia in the 2000s, when the manufacturer launched large advertising campaigns, says Ramaz Chanturia, general director of the Rosschaikofe association. According to him, by 2022, the volume of consumption of brand products has become small. The expert stressed that the tea market in Russia is very competitive and has many large players, so even the departure of such a well-known brand as Lipton will not affect it.

The international company Ekaterra announced its withdrawal from the Russian market on August 1, 2022, linking this to the fact that "the current situation does not allow stable business development." Ekaterra produces Lipton, Brooke Bond and Saito tea.

The Milford brand is known at least firsthand by 19.6% of Russians over 16 who consume tea and live in large cities, follows from the data of the research company Ipsos for February - March 2022[1]
