SIT addresses global challenges through science, technology, and education. This flagship project is based on a network of industrial and other partners, including universities around the world and leading scientists in the field of computers, physics and business.

Areas of study

The mission of SIT is to stimulate the transformation and development of science, conduct new research and develop technology. For June 2020, SIT is developing in such strategic areas as quantum technologies, new materials, machine learning and cyber defense.

The Institute is engaged in theoretical and applied research in the field of software, equipment, computing systems and networks, web technologies, databases, the Internet of Things and information security. In addition, much attention is paid to the legal aspects of activities and to ensuring the privacy of data. In all areas of its activities, SIT conducts research, as well as studies the application of new technologies in business.

Supervisory and Industrial Councils

The supervisory and industrial councils for June 2020 include more than 30 people - scientists, entrepreneurs, visionaries. Among them are laureate Nobel Prize in physics Konstantin Novoselov, professor of physics from Harvard University Mikhail Lukin, professor of economics state and politics, honorary vice-rector Carnegie Mellon University at Mark Kamlet, professor of quantum information communications Geneva and university Nicholas Gisan and many others.

History

2021: Unification of SIT and JUB universities in Europe to create an analogue of MIPT and Innopolis

Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT) announced that it has become the largest shareholder of the University of Bremen Jacobs (JUB). The partnership between SIT and Jacobs University is expected to promote interdisciplinary science, technology and education in Europe and beyond. This was announced on September 23, 2021 by TAdviser at Acronis.

According to Sergei Belousov, founder and chairman of the board of SIT, founder and head of advanced developments of the Swiss-Singaporean technological unicorn Acronis, SIT together with JUB will become a center of interdisciplinary excellence in science, technology and education, by analogy with MIPT and Innopolis, with which we have long-standing relations. I consider these universities to be the best for talented students and scientists, and we plan to hire such students and scientists in our companies. "

Acronis founder Sergei Belousov unites universities in Europe to create an analogue of MIPT and Innopolis

SIT, headquartered in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, offers master's degree, Ph.D. training programs, as well as post-doctoral studies at the intersection of eight main areas: quantum technologies, modern materials, software development, artificial intelligence and computer sciences (MICS), quantum business science (QuBus), life sciences, autonomous systems and robotics, cyber protection and information integrity.

According to Sergei Belousov, "the scientific superiority of SIT in eight main areas will add great value to the Bremen ecosystem - automotive industry aero, and space industry logistics sea transportation, life science - where you can use new ideas from autonomous driving and robotics, and, cyber security integration systems business science and much more."

The deal was supported by the SIT Strategic Advisory Council, which includes eight professors from leading universities in the world and two industry experts, including Nobel Prize winner in physics Konstantin Novoselov, Nobel Prize winner in physics Wolfgang Ketterle, Wolfgang Walster, founder and director of the German research center artificial intelligence (DFKI), Mikhail Lukin, Professor, Harvard Andrea K. Ferarri, Professor, Cambridge Arthur Eckert, Professor, Oxford Nicholas Giesen, Geneva University Professor, Sergey Netessin, Deputy Dean of Wharton School of Business, Mark Kamlet, Professor and former Rector Carnegie Mellon and others.

SIT plans to implement a hybrid learning approach at Jacobs University that will allow the university to increase the number of students without the need to expand the campus. It is expected that the university will independently provide financing, reasonably investing in brand development, reputation management, marketing and sales. Together with SIT, Jacobs University will open the Institute for Advanced Studies, specializing in eight main areas.

Andrea Herzig-Erler and Professor Thomas Auf der Heide, Managing Directors of Jacobs University, noted: "We welcome the decision of the Senate of the Free Trading City of Bremen to approve the sale of a controlling stake in the Association for the Promotion of Scientific Research in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen." The goal of the partnership between the Schaffhausen Institute of Technology, the Graduate and Friends Foundation of Bremen Jacobs University, the Reimar-Lust Foundation, as well as Jacobs University is the sustainable and successful development of the university. These opportunities will emerge thanks to an extensive network of SIT companies, including SIT Campus, SIT Start Garden, SIT Autonomous, SIT Capital, SIT Alemira, SIT Academy and SIT Rolos, which will bring JUB new corporate partners, startups and joint research projects.

The SIT campus is expected to offer state-of-the-art services, software, and technologies designed and implemented to move research, education, and business operations beyond traditional university management approaches. According to representatives of the parties to the deal, the SIT campus will become an example in continental Europe, which will attract the best students, scientists and technologists from around the world.
