In early October 2023, FTX photos of his luxury penthouse in the Bahamas were released as part of a lawsuit against Sam Bankman-Freed, the founder and CEO of the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange. The value of this property is approximately $35 million.

In the case, the defence tried to get some of the images removed, fearing the yachts captured in the background could be mistaken for property owned by Bankman-Freed. However, this request was denied by the judge. According to some estimates, Bankman-Fried and Ryan Salame, a former FTX top executive, spent $256.3 million to buy and maintain 35 different properties in the Bahamas.[1]

In prison in the same cell with the ex-president of Honduras

2024: Sentence - 25 years in prison

On March 28, 2024, Manhattan federal court sentenced the founder and former head of the collapsed cryptoexchanges FTX Sam Bankman-Fried. He received 25 years in prison for fraud, conspiracy to launder money and a number of other crimes.

Judge Lewis Kaplan said during the hearing that during the consideration of the case he had never heard from Bankman-Fried "a word of remorse for serious crimes." The FTX founder, if not "outright lying" during cross-examination of prosecutors, was "evading" answers, Kaplan said. Jurors also sided with the prosecution, finding Bankman-Freed guilty on seven counts. The judge noted that the defendant obstructed justice and tried to influence witnesses.
