Education

Alexander Sobolev graduated from Moscow State University, Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics. He received a diploma from the Innovation Studio business school of innovative entrepreneurship at Moscow State University, where he studied marketing, innovative business models, fundraising and entrepreneurship.

Career

2012-2018

He worked in strategic consulting: in the leading international consulting company The Boston Consulting Group, as well as in a large Russian company Strategy Partners Group. In addition, he was the co-founder of several technology startups.

In November 2012, he joined the MegaFon team as Deputy Director for Strategy and Head of Strategic Partnerships and Projects. In his area of ​ ​ responsibility were the implementation of cross-functional projects, the development of functional strategies, in particular, in infrastructure and new businesses, the expansion and strengthening of strategic partnerships with operators, vendors and industry associations.

In this position, Alexander oversaw the key stages of the preparation and holding of the annual strategic session for members of the Management Board and the Board of Directors. As a result, the CEO and Board of Directors approved a number of functional strategies and strategically important projects. Among other achievements of Alexander Sobolev is the development and coordination of a strategic partnership with Telefonica, thanks to which MegaFon expanded the number of its clients - international companies, and also gained access to the experience of an international operator.

In February 2018, he took the position of Managing Director for Strategy and Organizational Development at MegaFon, replacing Natalya Chumachenko in this post; the function is directly subordinate to the CEO.

2024: Appointment as CEO of New Towers

Alexander Sobolev has been appointed the new CEO of the New Towers group of companies, which is the operator of telecommunications infrastructure. The corresponding entry appeared in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (Unified State Register of Legal Entities) on March 20, 2024.

Novye Towers confirmed to Interfax the change in the group's general director and clarified that Yevgeny Chermashentsev, who previously held this position, will continue to oversee the group's activities as chairman of the board of directors of the infrastructure operator.

The new CEO of the group has extensive experience in the field of telecommunications and the management of technology teams, the group emphasized.
