Nokia Mobile Edge Computing

The Mobile Edge Computing platform created by Nokia provides possibilities of cloud computing which allow to place functions of processing and the application of network of mobile communication is closer to subscribers. One of options of application Mobile Edge Computing – elimination of an overload of networks during the actions with the high level of traffic, such as concerts and sports meets when thousands of subscribers use access to network to share videos in social media.

Cooperation of Nokia and Skolkovo Foundation

In June, 2016 it became known that Nokia and Skolkovo Foundation intend to develop the ecosystem designed to stimulate development of a number of the innovation applications based on the Mobile Edge Computing platform. The applications expanding possibilities of subscribers will allow operators to find new sources of income.

Within cooperation Nokia and Skolkovo Foundation will interact with community of the companies startups based on Skolkovo, including with third-party software developers and other partners in an ecosystem. Work will be directed to application development, such as innovation video transmission which can be used on the Mobile Edge Computing Nokia platform. The companies will select and will finance projects on application development which will allow operators and event managers to offer the adapted services for subscribers.

Nokia and Skolkovo Foundation already implement a number of research projects in such directions as 4G networks and 5G, cloud and virtual networks of a radio access, reference 4G networks LTE and IoT. The companies intend to create a research complex in the Innovation center "Skolkovo" based on which representatives of an ecosystem of technologies of mobile communication will be able to optimize and improve services, applications and network infrastructure to meet the future demand on services of mobile data transmission in Russia and around the world.
