2020: The announcement of a laser ranging sensor for quadcopters

On June 26, 2020 the Schwabe company announced creation of a laser ranging sensor for small-sized unmanned aerial vehicles. Development is intended for solving of tasks in geodesy, cartography, the agrarian sector and other industries. The device will allow to carry out measurements of agricultural fields from air, to define places of potential floodings, to conduct search of the gone people.

According to the company, the laser ranging sensor can take measurements to the purpose which is at distance from several tens meters to 30 km. At the same time the device is capable to execute calculations concerning three purposes at the same time. Function of determination of the sizes of any selected object is also provided.

The module of a range finder is equipped with the photoreceiving device with high sensitivity, as allows to take measurements at long distances. At the same time the solid-state laser uses the wavelength, safe for sight of people and animals.

Thanks to small dimensions the device is built in all optoelectronic and radio-electronic systems, including construction of any kopter. Development will be suitable for needs of the agrarian and forest sector, hunting grounds, the fleet, law enforcement agencies and rescue services, the security organizations. Also the device can be used in sport, tourism, robotics. Tests of a prototype are going to be completed until the end of 2020 then serial production will begin.

Development can be used, in particular, for refining of borders of farmlands, direction finding of water drains, drawing up cards of floodings and an ecological status, monitoring of animals and plants. Besides, use of the UAV equipped with a laser ranging sensor increases chances to detect people in hard-to-reach spots – in the forest, mountains, the high sea.

The device is equipped with the built-in television channel thanks to what it can be directed at any purpose on the screen of the monitor or the normal TV. Among other opportunities of the device – the range of the measured range and temperature range.

The project is implemented by Polyus Research institute of M.F. Stelmakh of Schwabe holding. For June, 2020 development passed technology tests on the platform of institute and some other the enterprises of holding, including the Novosibirsk instrument-making plant and Ural Optical & Mechanical Plant.
