2022: System Announcement

On August 16, 2022, Exactech announced the first successful operations using Spartan Stem and Logical Cup systems. The company developed these systems for total hip arthroplasty.

Hip replacement is a total or selective replacement of parts of the joint that directly contact each other during movement. The hip joint is spherical in structure, so movements in it are possible in many planes. The joint is formed by the acetabulum, forming a kind of deep cup and the head of the femur, which has the shape of a ball.

Total Hip Replacement System Released

Spartan Stem has three displacement options and a conical, polished distal segment, and the Logical Cup, a modular acetabulum system, provides an efficient surgical process in hospitals and outpatient surgical centers, the company said in a press release.

According to Dr. Hasham Alvi of Barrington Orthopedic Specialists, Exactech's goal is to provide what doctors and institutional clients require, namely, effective tools, clinical, advanced implants, and medical-friendly solutions. Spartan Stem and Logical Cup extend the clinical breadth and depth of the hip offering and, combined with the Alteon system, reflect the company's mission to improve proven and deliver a rich and differentiated portfolio of orthopedic solutions. Both systems easily adapt to the preferred technique of anterior hip arthroplasty and have a customizable design designed to aid in advantageous positioning of leg displacement and length, Alvey said.

Exactech began piloting Spartan Stem and Logical Cup systems in limited regions of the United States in the third quarter of 2022. The company intends to expand its commercial launch in most regions of the country in the first half of 2023.[1]
