2023: Product Announcement

The Togliatti State University (TSU) has developed an ultrasonic instrument capable of replacing surgical saws and drills on joint replacement operations. This technology in August 2023 was told in the press service of the Platform of the National Technological Initiative (NTI).

The complex developed at TSU consists of an ultrasonic generator and a manual device. It helps to reduce injuries due to the point mechanical effect on the bone only in the zone of its contact with the waveguide - a disposable part that requires replacement after each operation.

The waveguide works like a small hammer that hits the surface of a bone or biopolymer at a speed of 22 thousand times per second. Further, depending on the procedure, he cuts through the bone like a small file, or crashes into it, cleaning the channels, "explained Nikolai Spiridonov, project manager, second-year graduate student at TSU.

According to the developers, the domestic complex in its functionality does not differ from foreign analogues, but is much cheaper: the device from foreign developers will cost 10-15 million rubles, and the oriented market value of the Russian complex is 5-7 times lower.

According to TASS, the creators of the device became participants in one of the acceleration programs launched in Russia as part of the federal project "Platform of University Technological Entrepreneurship." The accelerator operator is the NTI Platform.[1]
