2020: System implementation of management of the warehouse LEAD WMS

On March 16, 2020 the LogistiX company announced project completion of system implementation of management of the warehouse LEAD WMS on 14 platforms of Baltika brewery. In 12 months taking into account a seasonal pause from May to August, 2019 10 plants in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan and 4 remote distribution centers with a total area more than 150,000 sq.m were automated.

We were faced by an ambitious task – to execute the project in the short time delivered by the Customer. We had to ensure functioning on 24/7 starts in this connection on our party about 10 people took part in the project. Unlike the classical replicated technology it was also necessary to consider specifics of work of each separate object. For us this project became a powerful and interesting call.

Dmitry Blinov, the technical director of LogistiX group told

According to the company, the pilot project began in July, 2018. The main focus was made at a stage of modeling of processes and design of functionality of a system which covered the majority of the functions, general for warehouses. In December, 2018 under system management of LEAD WMS the first warehouse in Voronezh is translated. In 2019 two series of implementations took place: from February to April – 4 warehouses, from September to December – 9 warehouses. The seasonal pause from May to August gave the chance to sum up the results, to close the remained requirement on functionality and to be prepared for the main unit of starts.

Within the project finished goods warehouses on which the combination of different storage systems is applied were automated. Special attention was paid to technology of stacking storage. A system automatically calculates different types of a stack, controls laying and division on layers and also optimizes arrangement for economy of the place.

Accurate planning and synchronized, transparent work of project teams became important components of success of the project. 13 people from two parties participated in starts: 2 project managers, 1 engineer from IT, 4 engineers of operational support, 2 consultants, 2 developers and 2 key users. Due to round-the-clock operation all command was separated into two changes.

Alexander Chizh, the head of group of engineering of applied logistics systems of Baltika brewery told

Start of each automation object was preceded by 10 days of dense preparation, training and final testing. The majority of projects is transfer from one WMS on another, but with significant increase in level of automation. For 80% of platforms transfer to a system and reaching rated capacity made from 48 to 72 hours. On platforms where WMS was not earlier, reaching rated capacity – in 5 days.

Specialists of LogistiX make integration with ERP "Monolit" MES, YMS (management of the yard). Thanks to the open interface of exchange data the possibility of use of any data from LEAD WMS for formation difficult analyst directly on the party of management systems appeared. In warehouses at the plants the integration module with the MES production system which allows to redistribute timely resources is configured and to provide the continuity of removal of products from production lines.

Control of all warehouses is exercised far off from the uniform server on mobile technology 3G without application of Wi-fi. The centralized architecture and low requirements to the hardware allowed to reduce significantly cost of ownership of WMS after migration and at the same time to provide high rates of reliability, fault tolerance and high-speed performance of a system.

In 2018 we made the decision on reforming of a warehouse control system. We asked ourselves a question what we would like to see our system if we began with "blank sheet". When choosing the partner and the solution we made a start from our current demands: reduction in cost of ownership of a system, reduction of a development cycle and installation of updates, reduction of requirements to the hardware, stability augmentation of a system, fall forward and qualities of implementation, the multilingual interface.

Pavel Haldin, the head of department of management of warehouses of Baltika brewery told
