2021: Cash automation pilot in three stores in Moscow region

The Pyaterochka retail chain is piloting a comprehensive solution to automate cash turnover processes in stores using the Glory Cashinfinity CI-10 cash payment terminals. The project started in three stores in the Moscow region, reported April 19, 2021 in the X5 Retail Group.

Cash payment terminals are recirculation devices with trays for receiving and issuing cash (both bills and coins), which are embedded in the cash module. When calculating for the purchase in cash, the guest simply needs to place the money in the bill acceptor, and the terminal will automatically calculate the amount received and, if necessary, issue banknotes and coins at a very high speed. No additional contact with the cashier and manual actions will be required. Without being distracted by working with cash, the cashier is less exposed to stress due to the responsibility for processing money. In addition, the solution allows you to minimize errors associated with the human factor in mutual calculations.

The devices are equipped with a detection unit certified by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, which checks the main signs of the authenticity of banknotes in accordance with current legislation.

The high speed of cash receipt and delivery by the terminal will increase the efficiency of store employees, reducing labor costs, as well as improve customer experience by reducing service time, simplicity of payment and no errors in calculations.

A feature of such automation of cash handling is also the fact that the contact of cashiers with cash is completely excluded. In the current epidemiological situation, this creates additional safety for staff, X5 emphasized. The process of opening and closing a work shift by cashiers is significantly simplified, as the need to recalculate cash at cash desks is completely eliminated. During the piloting process, employees of the service bank will collect the revenue of cash machines directly from the cash desk line.

During the pilot, an analysis of the integration of technology into existing systems will be carried out, as well as an efficiency assessment to decide on further scaling.

2020: Launch of pilot on installation of 60 touch boxes

On November 9, 2020, the Pyaterochka retail chain launched a pilot to install 60 touch boxes in stores. The devices are designed to reduce service time and increase the efficiency of cashiers.

These devices are equipped with two monitors with touch displays: one for the cashier, the other for the customer. This solution allows you to display on the customer's displays more detailed information about the purchase - full filling of the check (not only the amount, as on a regular cash register), as well as additionally inform about promotional offers, discounts, and current shares. On the screen, the guest can self-scan his "Get Out Card" and check the balance of the accumulated points of the loyalty program "Get Out Card." Also in the box office appeared the function of refusing to print a paper check and sending an electronic check.

Thanks to the more extensive functionality of touch boxes, employees no longer need to use paper media to search and manually enter local product codes, which reduces the time to perform cash transactions and thereby reduces the likelihood of queues. Also, touch boxes fail much less often than models with a classic keyboard. Thus, the installation of such equipment significantly improves the ergonomics of the cashier seller's workplace.

Testing of the solution takes place on the basis of 22 stores in Moscow, the Moscow region, Novosibirsk and Kazan.

The existing network infrastructure is ready to scale innovations: the selected solution corresponds to models already used in the operating activities of the retail network and allows you to upgrade the current fleet of cash registers for sensor solutions.
