Implementation project of a management system for a configuration of workstations for Victoria Group

The Softline company announced project completion on system implementation of configuration management of workstations based on Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 R2 for Victoria Group.

Victoria Group is the federal trading company of Russia which is successfully working since 1993, the managing director of retail networks of different formats in regions of Russia. Now more than 249 shops and offices are opened. In the distributed local area network of Victoria Group in the Moscow and regional offices 1300 personal and mobile computers running Windows XP at which service the staff of IT departments faced problems which had to be solved with each separate device are used. For the purpose of cost reduction on service of information systems, costs for carrying out audit, unification and automation of a management system and further for optimization of IT resources of the company it was decided to implement the system of the centralized service of the PC park on the basis of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 R2 (SCCM 2007 SP2 R2).

System architecture of SCCM 2007 SP2 R2 included 1 main in Moscow and 4 additional websites in regions – regional clients addressed the local servers which, in turn, communicated with the central server on the set schedule. It allowed to lower load of network channels between central and regional platforms.

During project implementation by specialists of Softline company function of inventory hardware and the software of client workstations and the analysis of a current status of the park of computers was configured.

Besides, specialists of Softline company implemented the SCCM 2007 SP2 R2 function of deployment of operating systems. As the standard Windows XP OS is admitted to Victoria Group. Process of deployment of Windows XP was automated by determination of the Sequence of Actions (Task Sequence) – on the hard drive the section was automatically created, the computer was entered into the domain Active Directory with the automatic placement of the computer login account to the preset organizational division, the client of SCCM was developed. It allowed to reduce housekeeping overheads of the park of computers. Installation process of OS and software at client workstations became more convenient and flexible.

As a result of system implementation of centralized operation by information infrastructure specialists of Victoria Group received the solution which allows to carry out regularly inventory of the equipment and the software, including collection of data on the unrolled software of servers and client workstations.
