EMC announced in May, 2011 release of the solution EMC Proven for Citrix XenDesktop, aimed at acceleration of implementation of infrastructure of virtual desktops and implementation of its advantages. This reliable, flexible and cost-efficient solution constructed on the basis of the unified storage systems of EMC VNX provides the predictable, high performance and availability, supporting up to 1000 virtual desktops, and easily extends. In this solution the principle of configuration from standard blocks is used that allows to scale it to thousands of virtual desktops.

The unified storage systems of EMC VNX with advanced technology a flash memory give to customers flexibility, opportunities of the choice and control with assistance of selection of resources for virtual desktops of Citrix XenDesktop. Customers can optimize the infrastructure and manage it with a guarantee that storage systems of EMC will function and be scaled according to their specific requirements. The EMC FAST Cache technology allows to receive performance in IOPS necessary for compliance to the SLA parameters required for virtual desktops of the customer, provides the maximum capacity which is easily scaled without increase in energy consumption inherent to large disk arrays of the occupied space and purchase costs of additional resources.

The packet of EMC FAST Suite including technologies of EMC FAST VP and EMC FAST Cache supports start of 1000 virtual desktops: they can be loaded and registered on XenDesktop controllers in 8 min. For service of peak load and a large number of the transactions of input-output (IOPS) generated at simultaneous loading of a large number of virtual desktops (Boot Storm), the EMC VNX systems need only 20 hard drives of SAS and two flash drives instead of 90–100 disks of SAS (that is almost five times more) in an equivalent configuration of a competitive system of comparable performance without flash drives.

Services and the solutions EMC Proven provide optimization of infrastructure in a private cloud for SAP solutions

In May, 2013 EMC announced solutions and services which will help customers to transfer workloads of SAP solutions to infrastructures of a private cloud of the next generation. Laying the foundation for technologies of a private cloud, EMC also deepens cooperation with SAP and VMware by integration of the relevant services and providing to customers means of acceleration of transfer of SAP applications at all stages of lifecycle on the virtualized Wednesdays of x86. It is expected that these new products will allow to use essentially new methods of creation of business operations and work of IT departments due to simplification of development, planning and operation of the infrastructures of a local cloud using the latest EMC, SAP and VMware technologies. Combining services and solutions, EMC in cooperation with SAP and VMware aims to provide to the customers using SAP applications, an opportunity to reduce costs, to simplify management of IT infrastructure and to focus on innovations and consolidation of competitive advantage.

The customers executing migration on a local cloud will aim to optimize the IT infrastructure as much as possible to increase performance of workloads based on SAP applications and to improve work of administrators of the IT and Basis which are responsible for their administration.

The solution EMC Proven for a private cloud with the working SAP applications considers the general business benefits of technologies of a private cloud and also the requirement of industry standards. The solution mentions the key components of a virtual stack intended for support of the virtualized environment of a private cloud with the working SAP applications. This solution can also facilitate high-quality achievement of service, optimization of performance and also management, allowing to control at the same time expenses due to consolidation of virtual infrastructure. Key solution components:

  • Maximum capacity and scalability due to use of completely automated multilevel data storage of EMC (FAST VP);
  • Management of IT infrastructure on the basis of use of the virtualized technology and integration with a SAP software of NetWeaver Landscape Virtualization Management;
  • Setup and deployment of models of virtual expense allocation for IT between divisions;
  • Monitoring of a cloud stack in the virtualized servers and infrastructure with the working SAP applications;
  • The continuity of work and permanent data protection for SAP solutions through EMC RecoverPoint and VPLEX.

The solution EMC Proven for the automated disaster recovery of SAP solutions is based on expansion of infrastructures of a private cloud for disaster recovery on heterogeneous infrastructure of storage and also on accomplishment of testing of plans of disaster recovery without work interruption. This solution is used by EMC RecoverPoint with VMware Site Recovery Manager for ensuring disaster recovery using the VMAX systems and the VNX series (is interchanged) as working storage and storage for disaster recovery for SAP applications. It is planned that this solution will provide the following advantages:

  • The approved switching of applications to a fallback resource. Completely automated switching to a fallback resource of several storage systems with preserving of integrity of an order of record of SAP applications, and this transaction is executed in a few minutes.
  • Recovery at a certain point in time. The configured application recovery of SAP after logical violation without the need for recovery and rollback back all database that significantly accelerates recovery.
  • Testing of switching to a fallback resource without work interruption. Online testing by recovery of the picture of SAP applications and its subsequent encapsulation in private network during the test.

As a result the plan of disaster recovery which, as expected, will provide testing without work interruption turns out to observe requirements to information security and audits, and will allow to use the existing storage resources for increase in an investment payback.


Working in cooperation with SAP and VMware, EMC offers the services intended for fast and safe transfer of workloads of SAP solutions on the virtualized Wednesdays of x86 which provide higher performance, simpler and less expensive in management.

Services available already now provide transformation for all stages of lifecycle of SAP applications, in particular:

  • Initial design and the subsequent development of the virtualized x86 infrastructure;
  • Change and planning of operational process of IT;
  • Planning, accomplishment and testing of migration of applications and infrastructure of SAP;
