Agreement with BASEALT to train IT specialists

The Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) and BASEALT have signed a cooperation agreement under the Alt Academy project. The goal is to prepare future IT specialists to work with Russian software and popularize domestic software. This was announced by "BASEALT" on December 3, 2025.

Specialists "BASEALT" and RUDN are planning:

• develop the digital educational environment of the university using the Alt Education and Alt Workstation operating systems;
• teach students and teachers how to work in GNU/Linux operating systems (using the Alt OS as an example );
• advise teachers on working with Alt OS and the applications that are supplied with the OS;
• improve the educational programs of the university;
• hold conferences, forums, practical seminars, round tables, competitions;
• develop and distribute practices on the effective use of Alt OS for educational purposes.

The signing of an agreement with BASEALT is an important step in the implementation of our training strategy for the digital economy of Russia. Joint programs will allow students to master domestic operating systems in practice, strengthening the country's technological sovereignty, - said Yulia Ebzeeva, First Vice-Rector - Vice-Rector for Educational Activities.

We see in RUDN a progressive partner who shares our desire to train highly qualified specialists, - said Evgenia Krynina, commercial director of BASEALT. - We plan to actively participate in the educational process: we will provide the university not only with software, but also with expert support, training materials and opportunities for internships. Thanks to cooperation, students will have access to Russian unique technologies, which will allow them to acquire relevant skills and knowledge in demand in the modern labor market, including in friendly countries.

Students studying GNU/Linux systems using the Alt OS as an example will be organized by RUDN teachers who have been trained at the BASEALT authorized training center and are certified Alt OS administration teachers. Course modules are planned to be included in the work programs of disciplines. The guys who have successfully mastered the course will be able to pass the vendor certification procedure with the assignment of the status "Certified Administrator of the Alt OS."

Opening plan with Sber of the campus at School 21

Sberbank and Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia will open a joint campus "School 21," where university students, in addition to their specialty, will be able to learn popular programming languages, gain strong IT competencies and master "soft" skills. The corresponding cooperation agreement was signed by the President, Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank German Gref and Rector of RUDN Oleg Yastrebov. 2023

Order to return to Patrice Lumumba University

On March 23, 2023, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia V.N. Falkov signed order No. 313 on renaming the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia and returning the name of Patrice Lumumba to him. Corresponding changes were made to the University Charter.

Agreement with SberEducation to create digital educational programs

SberEducation and the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia entered into a strategic partnership agreement. The document was signed by the director of the center of the education industry of Sberbank Natalya Zhuravleva and the first vice-rector, vice-rector for educational activities of RUDN Yulia Ebzeeva. Sberbank announced this on February 9, 2023.

The parties will work together to create educational programs, including the introduction and development of digital learning technologies. Along with the high quality of education, the collaboration of SberEducation and RUDN University will ensure personalization, building individual trajectories and the availability of an educational product. It is planned that one of the most important areas of work will be the creation of educational models and remote technologies, including using artificial intelligence. The parties will conduct joint educational programs in a network format, this will help mass training of personnel for the digital economy.

1992: Renamed RUDN

On February 5, 1992, by the decision of the Russian Government, the University was renamed the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia.

1960: Foundation of the University

Peoples' Friendship University was founded on February 5, 1960 by the decision of the USSR Government. On February 22, 1961, the University was named after Patrice Lumumba, one of the symbols of the struggle of the peoples of Africa for independence.
