The concept of "flexible data storage" means minimization of the initial financial investments of customers which can begin business based on the small systems consisting of two modules of the controller (CM) and four disk modules (DE) with the subsequent building as required up to eight CM and 3072 disk storage modules now. The separate module Eternus DX has the new form factor with a high density of component placement optimized for placement in a standard 19-inch rack.

The model is offered on the terms of the "transparent" license what will allow users of the Eternus family to estimate and control precisely expenses (without the hidden costs) and to carry out gradual upgrade without the exceeding of the set estimate connected with acquisition of additional licenses for which often there are just not enough means. It is important to note that software licenses for the Eternus DX systems have the fixed price which depends on number of the used controllers, but not on the varying amount of data.

One more feature of the Eternus DX8700 S2 system — application of the concept "flexible management by data" Fujitsu. This approach provides the high level of automation of segmentation at data storage, including support of different types and volumes of disks, and optimum level of functioning in the dynamic and quickly changing environments. Data transfer rate of a new system grew, according to Fujitsu, by 300%. Besides the company certified bigger quantity connected a host systems. At last, functions of data protection are expanded thanks to the "self-ciphered" hard drives.

The Fujitsu corporation announced at the beginning of 2013 the record results achieved by the ETERNUS DX8700 S2 system in the reference Storage Performance Council (SPC) test of Benchmark 2. The best values of capacity and price relation and performance among the high-performance systems available in the market for December 3, 2012 are shown.

There are industries requiring optimum levels of service for the dynamic and quickly developing environments which can include a set of open systems and the virtualized infrastructures. Capacity and system performance of data storage of Fujitsu ETERNUS DX8700 S2 correspond to the set conditions. Now it is confirmed by record results in independent SPC-2 test. Additional plus for customers is the minimum level of capital costs.

This achievement is the next confirmation of a successful performance of the ETERNUS DX systems in the SPC tests, best in the class. The set of results of testing allows to consider that the disk Fujitsu ETERNUS systems meet the difficult requirements of the companies needing implementation of large-scale projects — whether it be processing of financial information, requests to databases or virtualization of servers and the desktop systems.

  • Test results of SPC Benchmark-2 for the ETERNUS DX8700 S2 system: capacity of 16038.74 Mbps, price relation and productivities makes 79.51 US dollars on each Mbps of capacity.
  • Performance test of Storage Performance Council (SPC) is developed by non-profit organization for assessment of high-speed performance of the data warehouses provided by leading manufacturers.

Providing the speed and performance necessary for such applications as online transaction processing (Online Transaction Processing), the Fujitsu company also reduces response time at data processing and minimizes delays — practically implementing a real-time mode — at the expense of the increased volume a cache memory which exceeds 1 TB in the senior Fujitsu ETERNUS DX8700 model now. Besides, advanced algorithms of the automated data movement between levels of storage (Automated Storage Tiering) maintain optimal balance of high-speed performance, capacity and cost of a storage system. At the same time new features of quality management of service allow to reach more high efficiency and predictability of management of all applications.
