2023: Creation of a full digital version of the newspaper Znamya Truda

ELAR on May 24, 2023 announced the completion of the next stage of digitization of periodicals for the Leningrad Regional Universal Scientific Library.

The electronic collection "Local Seal" is created by the joint efforts of the Leningrad Regional Universal Scientific Library and ELAR Corporation and has been regularly updated since 2010. During the digitization project in 2023, more than 13 thousand pages of local periodicals were digitized. The issues of the Baltic Luch newspaper, the oldest newspaper in the Petrodvortsovy district of St. Petersburg and the Lomonosov district of the Leningrad region, were transferred to electronic form. Digital copies were created for numbers published from 1965 to 1968. Work continued on the creation of a full digital version of the newspaper Znamya Truda, which has already been exhibited on the website of the Slantsevskaya inter-settlement central district library and is in great demand among local historians, teachers, historians, librarians. The issues of 1989-1995s were digitized. The sheets of the Mayak newspaper for the period from 1996 to 2001 were also digitized.

The Leningrad Regional Universal Scientific Library is a coordination, scientific and methodological center for 384 publicly available libraries in the region, forming a strategy for library development in the region. The process of digitizing periodicals consists of several production stages, each of which is built taking into account the state and quality of sheet sets, as well as individual requirements of the customer. A large staff of ELAR specialists is involved in the digitization of periodicals - scanning operators, data indexing specialists, technologists and service engineers who carry out the calibration of equipment necessary specifically for this project. Scanning is carried out on professional domestic planetary scanners, which are designed for careful contactless digitization of even dilapidated and damaged paper.

2022: Digitization of the Znamya Truda and Mayak newspapers

On March 17, 2022, ELAR announced the joint holding of the next stage of digitization of the periodical press with the Leningrad Regional Universal Scientific Library. In 2022, work is underway to create digital versions of the Znamya Truda and Mayak newspapers.

The electronic collection "Local Seal," created jointly by Leningrad Oblast universal scientific libraries and ELAR, has been regularly updated since 2010. In 2021, 1,500 pages of the periodical publication of the Kirovsky district "Ladoga" were digitized Leningrad Region , and in 2022 two more publications will replenish the collection - the "Banner of Labor" of the Slantsevsky district for 1981-1988 and the newspaper "Mayak" 1984-1990, the city of Sosnovy Bor.

2021: Digitization of 1,500 pages of the Ladoga newspaper

2011: Selection of a supplier of a set of equipment for digitizing library funds

As part of the implementation of the Information Society Development Program in the Leningrad Region, the LO Telecommunications and Informatization Committee held an "Auction for the supply of a set of equipment for transferring library funds to electronic form." According to the results of the auction, the contractor was chosen by ELAR CJSC (ELAR Corporation).

The formation of electronic resources of libraries contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage and openness of previously inaccessible publications.

During the implementation of the project at the Leningrad Regional Universal Scientific Library, it is planned to supply a book scanner for digitizing rare books of the 19th century in order to ensure their safety - readers will be given electronic copies of these publications. Book monuments in electronic form will also be posted on the library website.

Under the terms of the Contract, the Elar PlanScan A2-3R industrial book scanner, which provides high quality electronic images, will be installed in the library until December 1, 2011.

A feature of the supplied equipment is careful scanning. The contactless method of digitization completely eliminates the mechanical effect on the original, ensuring its safety. The automatic book cradle allows you to qualitatively digitize thick books and discarded documents of various kinds without damaging the original. The unique backlight system, using special LED illuminators, carefully illuminates the originals with a moving strip of light, and also allows you to scan glare documents.
