Key Features and Features of the Vitro-CAD System

The Vitro-CAD Engineering Data Management System is designed to automate the creation and use of design documentation in the architectural and construction industry.

According to September 2017, Vitro-CAD is distinguished from engineering document management systems, originally created for mechanical engineering and subsequently adapted for the architectural and construction industry, by its ease of implementation and use, as well as support, construction CAD such as, and Revit. Civil 3D Navisworks

There are examples of the successful use of Vitro-CAD in shipbuilding for the design of a series of ships in standard hulls.

Vitro-CAD Core Functionality

Document Revision Maintenance

Versionality support is a standard feature of document management systems. It allows you to have a single latest version of the document, keeping all previous options for history. The name of the document does not change, which means that links will always point to the latest current version.

Vitro-CAD supports double versioning. To the left of the point is the designation of the final or major version, to the right - draft or minor. For example, 2.11 is the 11th draft version based on the final version 2.0. In design, this makes it possible to automatically maintain collective work in a shared data environment. Designers refer in their documents to the final versions of related specialties, which are created automatically after their approval by the chief specialist or manager. In this case, draft versions can be made invisible and not distract the attention of neighbors to inconsistent changes.

The system has the ability to view previous versions of the file with the author, date and time of change and comments on them.

Support for CAD formats

The system supports DWG formats with insert and overlay references. When downloading files to the system, the presence and integrity of links are checked. Uploading a file to a local disk is accompanied by uploading all reference files.

Moving and renaming link files does not lead to their loss, the system will help automatically track and fix errors.

In addition to DWG, references are supported in a number of other formats: DWF, DGN, RVT. It is also possible to establish links between any files of arbitrary formats, for example, you can bind calculated files or Excel tables to a drawing.

Automate the launch of a new project

The system creates a library of project documentation structure templates with file procurement and already configured access rights for the design team. This allows the GUI (Chief Project Engineer) to significantly speed up the start of a new project and immediately set standards for the design documentation.

Support for end-to-end design methodology Maintaining double versioning and maintaining link integrity allows you to organize team work on the project.

Simply load the structure of the project documentation from the template. Further, all links are supported automatically. You no longer need to copy, rename, or reference model or drawing files.

Instant Search

According to Autodesk, designers spend up to 20% of their work time searching for information. To reduce such losses, the Vitro-CAD system allows you to quickly find documents both by their parameters and by their context.

You can create and store complex logical combinations of parametric queries according to all kinds of parameters specified during system implementation.

Contextual search instantly finds documents based on the words contained in them and covers a huge number of different formats, including (DWG, DWF, DGN, PDF, TIFF, DOC, XLS...).

There is no need to structure documents from old projects for months, you just need to place all the archives in Vitro-CAD. A contextual search will immediately find information in your old project documentation archives.

Automatically populate fields

Another function that significantly increases the speed of designers and radically reduces the number of technical errors. The Vitro-CAD system allows you to automatically fill in stamps, title pages of documents with project attribute data (project name, section, etc.). Calculated fields are used to automatically generate document codes.

The system has the function of inline filling, when you need to fix stamps and cover sheets in hundreds of documents at once, without opening each in AutoCAD, Word or Excel.

Process and Job Management

Vitro-CAD automates workflows. For example, such as approving documents or issuing design assignments. Such processes are conveniently launched in seconds without leaving CAD or Microsoft Office applications.

Processes may be of high complexity, including parallel and sequential regions, branches, and cycles. You can automatically copy and rename files according to the specified templates, launch applications, change access rights, and much more.

Support for BIM technologies

To implement BIM, you need support for specialized CAD. Vitro-CAD supports a wide range of 3D CAD. Of particular note is the tight integration of the system with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Navisworks. The Revit Family Library module (Vitro BIM RFL) allows you to manage families.

Change Notifications and Reports

Vitro-CAD provides automatic notification of changes in files or tasks. Employees can subscribe to receive such notifications for specific documents, sections, or entire projects via their e-mail. The system allows you to automatically create and send various reports according to a specified schedule.

Distributed and Remote Work

The system provides remote access to external users (customers, contractors, remote employees). The access period and documents to which they have access can be set individually in accordance with the production need. The system is resistant to temporary problems in local networks and communication channels and allows employees to continue working locally.

Information Storage Security

The system allows you to manage information access rights. The rights are assigned by the responsible employees themselves without contacting the IT service. The system records all user actions in the log, which allows you to analyze and determine the causes of probable problems. In case of suspicious user actions related to data upload, the responsible employees should be notified immediately.

System Reliability and Scalability

Reliability is ensured by redundancy. servers Disaster tolerance is achieved by geographically distributed backup. The system scales from a virtual server to a load-balanced server farm. Many databases in use are supported. Geographically spaced project commands use technologies to synchronize local storage with the central base. Thus, the system scales from dozens of users to several thousand.

Ease of implementation and flexibility

System configuration does not require programming. If necessary, the customer can independently change the settings, for example, add a new parameter or build a new report.

User training fits into one hour. The system does not have a separate interface. All work comes from familiar programs or from Windows Explorer. The presence of an open API and compatibility with Microsoft SharePoint allows you to integrate the system with other enterprise information systems.

Differences between Vitro-CAD and other engineering document management systems

The Vitro-CAD system differs from other well-known engineering document management systems in its powerful functionality and flexibility. According to the developer company, it is difficult to name a second system that corresponds to at least half of the listed features.

The main advantages of Vitro-CAD are:

  • out-of-the-box implementation platform BIM

Modifying the Vitro-CAD Package

Vitro Software, a developer of Vitro- Design and Estimate Documentation (DSV) management solutions, CAD changed the composition of the solution delivery package in the spring of 2014 - now the product is delivered with a pre-configured standard configuration.

A typical configuration is a set of basic system settings that is included in the installation package of the Vitro-CAD system, based on industry-specific ASG standards and basic design processes. With the delivery of the Vitro-CAD system, a typical configuration allows organizations whose internal regulations are close to the basic settings (or absent) to begin using the system immediately after deployment, including: connect and train users; record the values in the directory of counterparty companies and in the directory of construction facilities; start new projects and place project documentation in the electronic archive.

Using a typical configuration as the basis for internal enterprise design processes will automate the management of the DSP development process, monitor the state of the project at any stage of execution, as well as reduce the complexity and timing of system implementation in the enterprise, the company says.

If necessary, the typical configuration can be partially or completely changed in accordance with the regulations and structures of a particular customer's enterprise. The system can be set up for the specific characteristics of the enterprise both by the specialists of the enterprise (after training) and by the system experts as part of an individual implementation project.

In general, the typical configuration includes: the structure of storage of top-level documents; a set of reference books used; typical organizational structure of the design organization; typical design documentation structure; typical document cards and storage structure elements; standard rights groups; typical forms of information display; Key analyses Sample documents with attribute synchronization settings supporting documents for the typical configuration.
