Biography
Born February 15, 1967 in Moscow, Russia.
Education
1990 - graduated with honors from the Physics and Chemistry Department of the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys (MISiS) with a degree in Metal Physics.
1992 - graduated from graduate school of MISIS. He defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences on the topic "Heat transfer by interacting electrons in superconductors and normal metals"[1].
2003 - graduated from the Moscow State Law Academy with a degree in Jurisprudence.
Scientific degree
Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor.
1997 - defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Physics and Mathematics on the topic "Thermoelectric effect and heat transfer in electronic systems with interaction."
Career
1992-2000 - Researcher, Senior Researcher, Synthesis Research Laboratory; MISIS associate professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics. MISIS
1997-2000 - Was Deputy Vice-Rector of MISiS for scientific work.
2000 - March 2004 - Vice-Rector for International Cooperation; Professor, Department of Theoretical Physics, MISIS (part-time).
Since April 2004 - Professor of the Department of Metal Science of Non-Ferrous Metals, MISIS (part-time).
May 2004 - November 2005 - Director of the Department of State Scientific, Technical and Innovation Policy of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

2016: Dismissal as Education Minister
On August 19, 2016, it was announced that Livanov would become the special representative of the Russian president for trade and economic relations with Ukraine. At a meeting with Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev noted that the government is strengthening work on priority projects, including in the field of education.
"Inorder to implement the ideas that have been formulated, new approaches and new powers are required, and in some cases new people,"[5] to[5] as[5].
Medvedev proposed to appoint an employee of the presidential administration as minister Olga Vasilyeva instead of Livanov and noted that Vasilyeva has a good track record. She began her professional career as a teacher, worked at the Academy of Sciences, has service experience state gained in the government apparatus and the presidential administration. "It seems to me that she is able to realize these new tasks," Medvedev stressed.
2021: Rector of MIPT
From June 16, 2021, Dmitry Livanov was appointed acting rector of MIPT, and in February 2022 - rector of MIPT.[6]
Scientific activity
The author of more than 50 scientific papers (excluding conference theses), including in the foreign press; textbook for universities "Physics of Metals" (2006).
Topics of scientific works:
- transport properties of metals;
- fluctuation phenomena in superconductors;
- physical properties of low-dimensional and amorphous metal systems.
Awards
2000 - awarded the RAS Gold Medal for Young Scientists.
2011 - awarded the 2011 Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of education.
Marital status
Married, three children[1] and Science[1].
