Education
Valery Cherepennikov was born in Gorky (nowadays Nizhny Novgorod) where he graduated with honors from N.I. Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod in "radiophysics and electronics" (radio physical faculty).
Career
Valery came to Intel corporation in 2000, right after the termination of the university. During operating time in corporation he participated in the projects connected with "machine vision", computer image processing and a sound. At Valery Cherepennikov development of processor architecture, including, systems on a crystal and also issues of optimization of performance is of particular interest.
Since 2005 Mr. Cherepennikov headed group of developers on creation of solutions on the basis of platforms of Intel — at first supercomputers, and then the mobile client systems.
The Intel corporation reported in May, 2013 that Valery Cherepennikov before directing group of development of computing devices on the basis of architecture of Intel became the CEO on research and development of Intel in Russia. Isaev Kamil, the acting as the CEO on research and development of Intel in Russia, decided to continue the development in other organization.
Valery Cherepennikov will direct a numerous team of researchers and developers which integrates more than 700 engineers and programmers at offices of Intel corporation in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Novosibirsk. Their most part works in group of the software and services (SSG, Software and Services Group) where software products of Intel are created (compilers, mathematical libraries, tools for high-performance computing and performance review, means of simulation of hardware architecture, etc.).
Represented the interests of IT community in the Board of trustees of Skolkovo Foundation, Board of Directors of the Russian-American Chamber of commerce, etc. Regular speaker of industry conferences.
2020: Director of laboratory of high-performance computing of the Russian Research Institute of Huawei
On April 7, 2020 the Huawei company announced TAdviser Valery Cherepennikov's appointment to a position of the director of laboratory of high-performance computing of the Russian Research Institute of Huawei (Huawei Russian Research Institute, RRI) – R&D divisions of the company in Russia.
Valery will coordinate a broad spectrum of the questions connected with promotion of architecture of Huawei in a server segment of the market. Creation of a command for development of software tools – libraries for high-performance computing and communications (MPI), means of performance review, etc. will become the main direction. Also Valery will be actively involved in interaction with industry partners and joint developments with the Russian universities and research teams.
We welcome Valery in our command. He is the recognized expert with long-term experience. Its competences and skills will contribute to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation both with the Russian hi-tech organizations, and with profile Higher education institutions and research institutes. I believe that Huawei will become the first company which achieved success in the server market with processors based on architecture of ARM. Very much I hope that my experience of creation of an ecosystem of the software will become useful to the solution of this task. Also I see long-term potential behind the Russian-Chinese cooperation which is effectively developing against the background of sanctions from the Western world. Interaction in the field of high technologies is represented to me especially perspective. The Huawei company has one of the strongest R&D divisions in the world. I believe that its integration with the Russian scientific and educational ecosystem and the industry of high technologies can and should have powerful synergy effect.
