BI solution implementation project for Skartel company

On October 15, 2013 the ANALYTICS PLUS announces results of the project on implementation of the BI solution for Skartel company.

Business objective of the project:
For operational management of business it is necessary to provide top management of the company and middle managers with information on current status of network and efficiency of activity of the company on technical, qualitative and financial performance.

Project Goals and Objectives:

• Create the uniform tool for operational data analysis and statistics:
• In general on network, in detailing on macroregions and on each certain city for managers and experts of all levels.
• On groups of indicators: development of network, operation, utilization, quality, finance, efficiency.
• Using convenient and informative data formats for each user and selection of "problem points".
• With a possibility of simple upgrade of reports in the conditions of the changing requirements of business and external factors influencing business of the company.
• With a possibility of drill-down on indicators from the top level to everyone an object of network.
• With a possibility of simultaneous access to several data sources of different type.

Requirements to project implementation:
1. Systematize and implement evident representations more than 100 different indicators of activity of the company connected with construction and operation of LTE network and also qualitative and financial performance of activity of the company.
2. Implement the project in a short time – 10-15 working days.
3. Provide the high performance of the solution on amount of data more than 10 Tbyte.

Solution:
For the solution of a problem of information visualization and the reporting the software solution of Tableau Software company was selected. Delivery included Tableau Desktop Professional Editions, Tableau Server.

Tableau does not require difficult and long implementation. For achievement of fast result the ANALYTICS PLUS company suggested to train the Customer's specialists in the basics in Tableau, and then through joint efforts to develop a necessary initial set of the reporting the built-in functional means of Tableau.

The project team consisted of 3 employees from Yota Networks company and 2 employees from ANALYTICS PLUS company. Were cast as follows:

From Yota Networks:

• The project manager - regarding preparation and export of data for reports from different sources (DBMS Vertica HP Service Manager SAP Business Objects geographic information system 1C management of manufacturing plants): the organization of process of data collection, the organization of process and data preparation on the party of storage, setup Tableau Server, preparation of extracts of data, management of on-line of the Tableau portal.
• The project manager regarding report generation: collecting of business requirements, formation, adjustment and approval of terms of reference, design of dashbord of Tableau, report generation in Tableau, user training.
• Architect of the uniform data warehouse of Vertica: data preparation on the party of Vertica.

From ANALYTICS PLUS:

• The project manager – the general management the project, training of employees, participation in adjustment and approval of terms of reference, report generation in Tableau, consultation in the field of setup of representations and data preparation for them.
• The systems analyst – consultation on technical and functional issues of work Tableau, report generation in Tableau.

Training of employees Skartel in work in Tableau took several hours. Then at a series of meetings between specialists Skartel and ANALYTICS PLUS necessary changes were made to Technical specifications and final requirements to data are formulated. Thanks to Tableau opportunities specialists of the Customer and the Contractor could implement the project far off, being in two territorially spaced offices of the company (Moscow and St. Petersburg). The general meetings were held weekly for discussion of a current status of the project and planning of further works.

Specialists of ANALYTICS PLUS company provided training of expanded list of employees of the Customer in a webinar format, and further gave consulting support within several months after start of a system in operation.

It should be noted that the solution using Tableau showed high performance thanks to good integration of Tableau and Vertica and also thanks to correctly selected data model.

Result:
In the planned terms (15 working days) the main set of the reporting necessary for the operational analysis and management and intended for middle managers was created: 25 dashboards, on each of which are placed 4-6 different options of data views (diagrams, tables, charts and so forth). The total quantity of reports made about 140. During the same period specialists Skartel independently created the reporting for top managers of the company (about 40 reports and visualization).

As a result the Skartel company received:

• Ready interactive reports for business in 3 weeks.
• Satisfaction of heads of divisions and top of management of the company with the achieved project deliverable.
• Readiness of analysts further independently to support and develop the existing reports the system of a business intelligence.

Within a year of ANALYTICS PLUS Skartel also rendered consulting company services. The financial statements were jointly developed, dashboards are finished, integration with 1C is performed, services in development of formats of the data which are most satisfying to problems of a business intelligence are rendered.
