Percona Server

Percona Server - DBMS on the MySQL platform with the open code. It is distributed for free.

On October 14, 2013 it became known of release of the version of Percona Server 5.6 DBMS by Percona company.

Properties

In new release of DBMS the possibilities of scalability, availability, reservation and security until recently inherent only to the commercial version of MySQL of 5.6 Enterprise Editions of the Oracle corporation are implemented.

Percona Server 5.6 is distributed for free, the platform - the version of MySQL 5.6 with the open code which Oracle released in February.

2016: Percona Server for MySQL 5.7

On February 24, 2016 the company Percona announced Percona Server exit for expanded DBMS MySQL option 5.7^[1].

There was also a release of the free product Percona XtraBackup 2.4 providing means for "hot" reservation of MySQL and other options of this DBMS including Percona Server and MariaDB. Percona Server and Percona XtraBackup are available to free download and are distributed under the free license GPL.

As a part of Percona Server and completely we will combine 5.7 all changes added by Oracle company to MySQL 5.7 Community Edition with this DBMS. The version from Percona offers enhanced capabilities of backup, monitoring, the TokuDB engine optimized to write operations providing more high compression ratio of data and efficiency in a cloud. Percona Server for MySQL 5.7 also saves a course towards performance improvement, improvement of scalability and ensuring high availability.

Main Features

• Upgrade of opportunities of monitoring
  • Statistics on tables, users and indexes is provided with the minimum impact on performance and provides more complete understanding of activity on servers and also allows to define loading sources.
  • Expanded logging of slow requests (slow query log) does possible more detailed performance review of requests.
  • Distribution of time of reply to the request gives detailed information on requests for a read and write separately for each type of requests and during the set period.

• Performance and security
  • the Thread pool (thread pool) provides scaling to more than 10,000 connections on the server.
  • Plagin of authentication of PAM (Pluggable Authentication Modules) executes authentication of users of MySQL.
  • Plagin of audit the politician and logging of activity of connections and accomplishment of requests gives a monitoring opportunity on a basis.
  • Blocking for backup provide creation of backup copies without significant decline in production.

• The TokuDB engine optimized under write operations allowing to create transaction storages for MySQL. In comparison with InnoDB the new engine provides more high compression ratio of data and significantly advances on the speed of adding of large volumes of data.
• Enhanced capabilities of full external authentication, logging of audit and scaling at the level of a thread pool. Similar functionality is available only in the commercial version of MySQL Enterprise Edition from Oracle.
• Percona Server for MySQL 5.7 is integrated with the whole set of other products from Percona, including Percona XtraDB Cluster, Percona XtraBackup, Percona Toolkit, etc.
