Giprovostokneft completes the project of quality improvement of use of software

Content

On February 10, 2014 the Softline company announced project completion on improvement of quality of use of the software of Microsoft, increase in level of license compliance of software in research and Giprovostokneft design institute.

Project Tasks

Increase in efficiency of use of the software due to monitoring of IT infrastructure and also creation of a transparent system of inventory of IT and accounting of licenses softwares is extremely important for the management Giprovostokneft. Therefore at institute the decision on carrying out projects according to the SAM Services program was made. Creation of an accounting system and software management at the enterprise is intended to help to cut down expenses on acquisition of software, to effectively plan the IT budget and to reduce the legal risks which are inevitably arising when using the unlicensed software.

For project implementation in Giprovostokneft the Microsoft company suggested to use two levels of the program - SAM Baseline and SAM Assesment. The project mentioned workstations, notebooks and servers of the main buildings of institute in Samara.

"As the IT partner we selected Softline – one of key Russian Microsoft partners as the company is solution provider within the corporate agreement of Enterprise Agreement for our institute and also has extensive experience of projects implementation of SAM Services", – Lyubov Zubova, the deputy CEO for information technologies of JSC Giprovostokneft noted.

Project Progress

During the SAM Baseline project specialists of Softline booked audit of documents of title according to the software of Microsoft. Using the Microsoft SCCM tools the procedure of scanning of workstations, notebooks, servers in all divisions of institute is performed. According to the results of inventory the report on software installed on 900 PCs and 14 servers of institute was made. On the basis of data retrieveds the assessment of license purity was carried out, its level on all categories softwares of Microsoft was 100%.

Implementation of the second project is SAM Assesment, is directed to assessment of the current degree of a maturity of the SAM model on core competencies, assessment of business risks and also to formation of the purposes and the plan of transition to higher level of SAM. Questioning and interviewing by techniques of Microsoft Software Asset Management Optimization Model became the main tools of assessment.

Project Results

Necessary data are collected and the analysis of IT infrastructure, the rights, duties, regulations of work of each division of IT is carried out. Processes of inventory, monitoring program are investigated and hardware, data on purchases and accounting of licensing rights are collected. The implemented project allowed to start formalization of internal procedures of SAM and to create at the end of the corresponding automated tools.
