On February 20, 2014 the Softline company announced project completion on optimization of IT infrastructure in the Russian Academy of Medical Science.

Project Tasks

The Softline company within the public contract of 2013 rendered services of support of technical implementations of the Russian Academy of Medical Science and rendered consulting services.

Specialists of department of solutions of Microsoft of Softline company after audit of infrastructure of organization detected:

  • errors in the organization of network and work of IT services;
  • problems in functioning of domain controllers;
  • low level of reliability of IT systems;
  • mismatch of the available mail system to security requirements;
  • low load of physical servers.

Eliminating defects of functioning of systems, engineers of Softline helped the customer to organize work of a local network. For ensuring optimal loading of physical servers recommended to virtualize Russian Academy of Medical Science services, to deploy the full-fledged mail server of the corporate level on the basis of technologies of Microsoft. The proposed solution satisfied the management of academy. In addition, approach was economic.

Project Progress

The project began with inspection of readiness of IT infrastructure for virtualization and necessary preparatory work. Carried out by the first stage restructuring and updating of a directory service of the Active Directory to version 2012, unrolled a cluster and the new domain controller on the basis of Windows Server 2012.

Then transferred servers: file, mail, the domain controller in virtual environment, for their management and automation of tasks set Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager. All this helped to create "cloud" for transparent management of all infrastructure of the customer – from physical servers to virtual machines.

Upon completion of the works connected with virtualization of a system in new infrastructure of the Russian Academy of Medical Science unrolled Microsoft Exchange Server and carried out migration of mail from the Mail Daemon platform.

Project Results

The project of Softline eliminated the risks connected with incorrect work of IT services of academy. The cluster from six a blade servers ensures reliable and continuous functioning of an IT environment and all services.

Sergey Pozolotin, the chief specialist of department of information resources of management of informatization and communication with mass media of the Russian Academy of Medical Science, noted: "Use of technologies of virtualization allowed to optimize IT infrastructure of academy: the hardware is used more effectively, the created images of servers allow to turn new cars without the need for acquisition of additional capacities and violation of security requirements. All these steps will allow to reduce in the future considerably our costs for technical support of IT systems".
"When implementing this project we provided fault tolerance and flexible management with resources at the level of the virtualization platform, organized safe private "cloud" (now end users receive services in the form of virtual machines or applications, but do not interact directly with the virtualization platform). The monoplatform managed and predictable infrastructure at all levels – from the virtualization platform to IT services and process of their providing to end users was as a result constructed", - Vitaly Cheryatnikov, the head of group of infrastructure projects of department of solutions of Microsoft of Softline company told.
