Performance indicators
2023: Revenue decline 12% to NT $241.31 billion
At the end of 2023, Acer's revenue amounted to approximately Taiwan $241.31 billion, which is equivalent to $7.58 billion at the exchange rate as of March 25, 2024. For comparison, a year earlier, Acer received 275.42 billion Taiwan dollars. Thus, revenue on an annualized basis decreased by approximately 12%. This is stated in the financial report published on March 14, 2024.
It is noted that the deterioration in financial indicators is associated with a decrease in demand for personal computers. In 2023, Acer implemented a comprehensive strategy to create separate business areas. In particular, three subsidiaries went public, and by the end of 2023 their number increased to 12.
Acer's net profit in 2023 was NT $4.93 billion (approximately $0.15 billion). For comparison: a year earlier, this figure was 5 billion Taiwan dollars.
Acer's personal computer and monitor business has returned to the path of profitability, while inventory has improved. The company is optimistic about the opportunities that artificial intelligence opens up and believes that generative services will become a megatrend in 2024 and in subsequent years, the company said in its financial statement. |
The document says that in 2023, 42.8% of Acer's operating profit came from activities not related to personal computers and monitors. In general, at the end of 2023, gross profit amounted to 25.82 billion Taiwan dollars ($0.81 billion) with a margin of 10.7%, operating profit - 4.23 billion Taiwan dollars ($0.13 billion) with a margin of 1.8%. The company expects that in the future, the development of technologies AI and large language models will contribute to the growth of demand for personal computers.[1]
2021: Revenue growth 15.1%, net profit 81%
Acer's revenue at the end of 2021 increased by 15.1% compared to 2020 and amounted to a little more than 319 billion Taiwan dollars ($11.3 billion). The company's net profit in 2021 reached 10.9 billion Taiwan dollars (about $386 million). This is the best Acer result in the last 11 years, an increase from 2020 of 81%.
From the presentation published by Acer, it became known that the Asia-Pacific region remains the largest market for the company, as before. In 2021, it accounted for 40% of the annual turnover against 36% in 2020. The share of EMEA in total turnover remained unchanged (34%), while the share of the Americas decreased from 30% to 26%.
Acer's main source of revenue in terms of products is still laptops. In 2021, they brought the company 64% of revenue (corresponds to the indicator of one year ago), and the sales of monitors and desktop PCs accounted for 10% of the turnover. Another 16% of sales were provided by other types of products, including servers OS-based devices, Android accessories, as well as services and subsidiaries.
Among the products with the highest upward dynamics during this period, the Taiwanese vendor listed desktop PC systems (an increase of 36% year-on-year), gaming products (+ 32.4%) and computers for commercial users (+ 41.6%). Laptop sales increased by 4.6%, computer monitors - by 9.8%.
It also follows from the Acer report that by the end of 2021, the company had accumulated cash and cash equivalents of NT $44.62 billion against NT $39.18 billion a year earlier. A selection of the best projectors for home and business: Acer line-up review
Watch a film, present a business project, tell seventh graders about the Battle of Kulikovo - all these different things are impossible without one thing: a projector. Despite this, such devices are often selected "at random," as a result of which buyers are unhappy with the image quality, mounts and other aspects. TAdviser figured out the specifications of Acer projectors to give an exhaustive answer for those planning to upgrade their device or simply buy it for the first time. Read more here.
Exposed 160GB of classified data
In early March 2023, it became known about the Acer data leak. The "merged" database includes confidential documentation on product models, binaries, files of the manufacturer's internal infrastructure and other classified information. As evidence of a successful hack, hackers published some of the stolen data, including financial ones.
One of the attackers posted Acer data on a popular hacker forum, claiming that the stolen data set contains 160 GB of data from several hundred directories with almost 3 thousand files. The dataset allegedly includes a wealth of enterprise data such as confidential presentations, Acer technical staff guides, Windows Imaging Component format files, confidential documentation on models of various devices, removable product digital keys (RDPKs), and other company data.
The attacker who wrote the message on the hacker forum claims that the leak dates back to February 2023, if the message is confirmed, it will indicate that Acer was hacked. For example, the loss of RDPK can lead to a loss of income, since the company will have to spend time and money on their re-issuance to affected users. As of March 7, 2023, it is not known whether Microsoft Exchange vulnerabilities were used during the attack, the exploitation of which helped Chinese hackers penetrate Acer information systems in 2021.
The Cybernews research team confirmed that the data samples in the message contain files dated 2022, which may indicate a separate hack. However, the team noted that the seller could change the data to look fresher to convince other attackers to buy it.[3]
2021: REvil ransomware virus attack, $50m ransom
At the end of March 2021, it became known that Acer was attacked by the REvil ransomware virus. Hackers demanded a ransom of $50 million from the company.
According to Bleeping Computer, the ransomware gang hacked Acer and shared images of the stolen files as evidence on its website. In the images posted, you can consider various documents that include financial statements, bank credit accounts and bank messages. The attack is suspected to be related to Microsoft Exchange issues.
]]
Whether Acer paid the ransomware group is unknown. In a conversation with reporters, an Acer representative did not directly answer the question of whether the company was really attacked by REvil. He only noted that the company's management reported the "emergency situation" to the relevant law enforcement agencies. Acer detected the deviations in March and immediately took appropriate safety and precautions, he said.
Acer regularly checks its IT systems and is well protected from most cyber attacks. Such companies are constantly subjected to cyber attacks, and we have reported recent emergency situations to the relevant law enforcement and data protection agencies in many countries, a spokesman for Acer said. - We are constantly improving our cybersecurity infrastructure to protect business and the integrity of our information. We strongly encourage all companies and organizations not to neglect cybersecurity and be vigilant against any disruption to network activity. |
When asked to provide more details, an Acer spokesman replied that "an investigation is underway and for security reasons the company cannot yet comment in more detail on the situation."[4]
2020: Revenue growth by 18.3%, to NT $277.1 billion, profit - by 129% (to NT $6.03 billion)
Acer's revenue for 2020 reached NT $277.1 billion (about $9.8 billion at the exchange rate at the time of publication of the financial statements - March 18, 2021), which is 18.3% more than sales a year ago. Net profit during this time increased even more - by 129% to NT $6.03 billion ($212 million).
The largest market for Acer remains the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, which in 2020 brought the Taiwanese company 36% of revenue. In 2019, this figure was measured at 40%. The share of revenues in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) for the year increased from 33% to 34%, and in the countries of the Americas - from 27% to 30%.
As for the structure of revenue depending on product categories, laptops (including hybrid models that can transform into tablets thanks to a folding or removable keyboard) are not just still leading - their share in the manufacturer's turnover in 2020 increased to 64% from 60% in 2019. Because of this, desktops accounted for 10% of Acer's annual revenue instead of 12% in 2019. The share of sales of computer monitors and projectors also decreased - from 13% to 12%. The rest of the products combined (among them -, servers Android-, smartphones accessories, services, etc.) formed about 14% of Acer sales at the end of 2020 against 15% a year earlier.
The financial results gave investors optimism, which led to the growth of Acer's stock quotes. On the day the report was published, Acer shares on the Taiwan Stock Exchange rose by almost 3%.
Although the Acer management recognizes the problems due to the lack of computer components, the financial indicators of the Taiwanese vendor continue to grow confidently against the background of the high demand for its computer products, the CNA edition notes. At the same time, by the end of 2020, Acer accumulated debts in the amount of NT $121.97[5]
2019: 3.3% drop in revenue to NT $234.29 billion; net income - NT $2.63 billion (-14 %)
In 2019, Acer raised NT $234.29 billion, down 3.3% from a year earlier. Most of the sales fell on the countries of the Asia-Pacific region - 40% in total turnover against 38% in 2018.
In the EMEA states, the share of revenue of the Taiwanese computer manufacturer decreased from 35% to 33%, and in the North and South America market this figure remained unchanged - at the level of 27%.
As for the distribution of revenue by product, laptops accounted for the largest share of sales in 2019 - 15% of total revenue. In second place in terms of income are computer monitors with a 13 percent result, and the third position was taken by desktop PCs (12%). The rest of the products combined, including, servers Android-, smartphones services and accessories, added 60% of revenue to Acer's turnover. About the same distribution was in 2018, but the share of laptops was lower (13%).
In the computer segment, Acer mainly focused on improving the competitiveness of its products and improving cooling technologies. Previously, the company abandoned the release of mobile phones and tablets, as these products caused losses. Acer is keeping a close eye on the ongoing business transformation and is also looking for growth incentives for emerging destinations, according to a 2019 report.
Acer noted positive dynamics in developing business areas. The revenue of the subsidiaries of Acer Cyber Security (ACSI, information security business) and Weblink International (computer peripherals, multimedia and network products, application software, electronic components and telecommunications products) has risen significantly. At the end of March 2020, Weblink was scheduled to release shares on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Acer net profit in 2019 decreased by 14% compared to 2018 to NT $2.63[6]
2018
Revenue growth of 2.1% to NT $242.27 billion; net income - NT $3.06 billion (+ 9%)
In 2018, Acer's revenue reached NT $242.27 billion (about $7.85 billion), up 2.1% from a year earlier, although computer sales fell. Most of the company's turnover is still generated by laptops (including hybrid models that can transform into tablets): they accounted for 60% of annual sales against 62% in 2017.
In second place in terms of sales are desktops, which accounted for 14% of Acer's revenue in 2018. A little less (13%) Taiwanese company earned in the markets of computer monitors and projectors. The share of other products, including servers, Android devices, accessories and services, amounted to 13%.
In terms of the regions where Acer earns the most, Asia-Pacific countries including Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China have strengthened leadership. In these markets, Acer's revenue amounted to 38% of the total for 2018 against 36% in 2017.[7]
EMEA remains the second largest market for the company. The share of countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa in the total turnover of Acer was equal to 35%, while in 2017 the figure was measured at 37%. The remaining 27% fell on the states of the Americas.
Acer completed 2018 with net income of NT $3.06 billion ($99.2 million), which is 9% higher than the previous year's profit.
The company's financial results could have been better if it had not been for the shortage of Intel processors and losses of NT $428 million incurred in October-December related to investments in virtual reality technologies.
Acer's main revenue growth drivers include gaming computers, Chromebooks, enterprise solutions, as well as new business areas such as AOpen and Acer Cyber Security.
According to Gartner, in 2018, Acer PC shipments decreased by 7.9% and were at 15.73 million units. Taking this into account, the market share of the Taiwanese vendor was 6.1% against 6.5% a year earlier.
Intel focused on Apple and left ASUS and Acer without processors
At the end of October 2018, information appeared that the main reason for the shortage of computer processors was Apple. Other PC manufacturers, including ASUS and Acer, are suffering from this collaboration between Intel and Apple. Read more here.
2017: Revenue growth of 2%
On April 2, 2018, Acer published the results of fiscal 2017 and the fourth quarter of 2017 approved by the Board of Directors. The company's consolidated revenue for the full year 2017 was NT $237.28 billion (or $8.15 billion), up 2% from 2016. Gross profit amounted to 25.36 billion Taiwan dollars ($871 million) with the highest margin in 14 years - 10.7%.
Operating profit reached its highest in the last 7 years, amounting to 3.67 billion Taiwan dollars ($126 million) with a margin of 1.5%, which is three times more than a year earlier. Net income amounted to 2.82 billion Taiwan dollars ($96 million), earnings per share - 0.93 Taiwan dollars.
Acer registered 380 technology patents in 2017, entering the top five Taiwanese companies with the highest number of new patents. In this way, the company demonstrates its commitment to expanding the range of its products in all markets and winning new segments.
In an effort to ensure an even distribution of funds to shareholders, the Board of Directors approved a dividend payment of N0.7 per share from net income.
2016
Losses of $161.4 million due to write-offs
On March 31, 2017, Acer released its annual financial statement. The Taiwanese computer manufacturer went into loss due to the impairment of intangible assets in subsidiaries.
In 2016, Acer's revenue amounted to 232.7 billion Taiwan dollars ($7.7 billion), which is 12% less than a year earlier. Net losses reached Taiwan $4.9 billion ($161.4 million), while a year earlier there was a net profit of Taiwan $604 million.
Cash losses are attributable to write-offs due to impairment of intangible assets. About 6.2 billion Taiwan dollars ($204.2 million) of losses fell on the cloud company iGware, bought by Acer in 2012. About 150 million Taiwan dollars ($4.9 million) were deducted from the value of the Gateway and Packard Bell brands. The development of iGware cloud products and services under the Acer wing did not make a profit, so the value of the assets had to be written off, Acer said.
If we do not take into account such one-time losses, then operating profit was recorded, which increased by 27% on an annualized basis, amounting to 1.2 billion Taiwan dollars ($39.5 million).
It also follows from the Acer report that almost all of Acer's revenue comes from IT equipment sales, which reached 219.6 billion Taiwan dollars ($7.2 billion) in 2015. Laptops accounted for 60% of the company's IT revenue. The top three segments included desktops and monitors, which accounted for 16% and 13% of revenue, respectively. Tablets provided the Taiwanese vendor with 5 percent revenue, smartphones - 1 percent. The rest of the electronics, including servers and accessories, form 4% of Acer's revenue.
Acer sells the most IT products in EMEA countries, which accounted for 39% of sales in 2016. In the Asia-Pacific region, the figure was 33%, in South and North America - 28%.[8]
Leakage of bank data of 34 thousand customers
In June 2016, it became known about a major leak of confidential data of Acer customers. Visitors to the Taiwanese manufacturer's online store were injured.
According to PCWorld, Acer sent a message to the California Attorney General that hackers hacked the company's online store and gained access to customers' personal data, including information about bank cards (numbers, card expiration dates and CVC security codes on the back), user names and addresses. The problem affected 34.5 thousand people living in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
The manufacturer did not specify how the attackers gained access to Acer servers. The company only noted that the hack was the result of some kind of "security problem" and "careless storage of data in an unprotected format."
It is also known that fraudsters stole the personal data of users who made purchases in the Acer online store from May 12, 2015 to April 28, 2016. Thus, the attackers went unnoticed for almost a year.
Acer launched an investigation into the incident together with law enforcement officials, cybercrime specialists and employees of the payment system with which the store worked. The amount of damage from this incident was not disclosed.
Acer recommends that customers affected by the hack closely monitor financial transactions in their accounts, and if there is any suspicion, immediately contact the police.
The American office of Acer discovered the possibility of accessing the data of customers of its online store of third parties, which it immediately informed them about and took all the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the data. The situation in no way affected the work of the company's online stores in other countries, as did Acer customers globally, the company said.[9] |
2015
66% profit drop
On March 24, 2016, Acer published its annual financial report and announced a restructuring involving the creation of two large divisions.
According to data presented by Acer, in 2015, the company's consolidated revenue amounted to 263.8 billion Taiwan dollars (almost $8 billion), which is 20% less than a year ago. Net profit decreased by 66.3% to 604 million Taiwan dollars ($18.3 million). Operating profit decreased from 2.7 billion Taiwan dollars ($81.8 million) in 2014 to 939 million Taiwan dollars ($28.4 million) a year later.
The Acer report notes that the company managed to maintain profitability and gross margin above 9%, which indicates the effectiveness of the chosen product strategy, which implies an emphasis on highly profitable goods.
Almost all of Acer's revenue comes from IT equipment sales, which reached NT $250.3 billion ($7.6 billion) in 2015. In this volume, laptops occupied 58% of revenues. The next largest segment is desktops, which accounted for 17% of annual revenue.
PC monitors and projectors brought the Taiwanese company 13% of turnover in 2015, tablets and smartphones - 6% and 2%, respectively. The rest of the electronics, including servers and accessories, form 4% of Acer's revenue.
As for the most profitable regions of Acer, in 2015 EMEA (Middle Europe East,) remained in the first place Africa , where the company received 37% of revenue from the total versus 43% a year earlier. The share of the Asia-Pacific region in Acer's business, by contrast, rose from 33% to 36%.
In addition to financial results, Acer announced the division of its business into two areas: Core Business (computers, monitors, projectors, servers, tablets) and New Business (cloud services, smartphones, wearable electronics). The latter will be managed (as well as invested in) by a new holding company 100% owned by Acer.[10]
The founder of Acer announced his readiness to sell the company
On August 27, 2015, Acer founder Stan Shih announced that he would welcome the sale of the company if offers arrived. At the same time, he questioned the potential interest in a computer manufacturer as unprofitable as Acer.
During a conversation with reporters, Stan Shih was asked a question about whether he would support the sale of Acer or a merger with anyone. To him, the founder of the Taiwanese company replied as follows: "Welcome!"
At the same time, Mr. Shi added that it is unlikely that anyone will be interested in Acer, since a potential buyer will receive only an "empty shell," but will pay a lot for it.
"American and European leaders, as a rule, are worried about the financial issue, their CEOs work only for money. But Taiwanese are more concerned with a sense of responsibility and emotional factors, "Stan Shi said.
Rumors about the possible sale of Acer have repeatedly appeared in the media, and they, I must say, are not groundless, given the difficult financial situation of the company. In the first half of 2015, the vendor recorded a net loss of 2.89 billion Taiwan dollars (about $90 million), while a year earlier there was a net profit. From 2011 to 2013, Acer was unprofitable due to falling sales of personal computers.
In July 2015, Acer's revenue fell by a third, negative dynamics were observed during the previous months. From April to the end of August 2015, the company's shares fell by almost half, reports Reuters.
Acer is not saved even by a large-scale restructuring, in which the company changed its CEO (in January 2014, Jason Chen/Jason Chen/became it), lowered the salaries of top managers by 30% and cut part of the jobs in order to optimize costs.
The sale of Acer would allow investors to return the money, but in this case, as Stan Shih noted, the Taiwanese market and business are unlikely to receive the satisfaction it seeks.[11]
2014: Return to profit after several years of losses
On March 25, 2015, Acer reported on annual financial results. The Taiwanese company was able to return to profit after three unprofitable years, helped by cost-cutting measures and the manufacturer's focus on the most profitable products.
According to the released data, in 2014, Acer's net profit amounted to 1.8 billion Taiwan dollars (about $57.6 million) against a net loss of 20.5 billion Taiwan dollars ($556 million) received a year earlier. 2012 and 2011 were also unprofitable for the vendor.
Acer Returns to Profit with Cost Cuts and Focus on Best-Value Products
During the reporting 12-month period, closed on December 31, 2014, Acer raised 329.7 billion Taiwan dollars ($10.5 billion), which is 8.5% less than the previous year. Gross income grew by 28.3%, reaching 28.94 billion Taiwan dollars ($926 million).
"The resultsshow that throughout the year, Acer remained profitable, revenues grew from quarter to quarter, and business gradually improved," Acer said in a statement.[12]
As one of the largest manufacturers of desktops and laptops, Acer has long been in financial decline due to the decline in demand for PCs due to the popularity of mobile devices. Exit operating system Windows 8 did not help revitalize the computer industry, and then Acer initiated a reorganization.
The company replaced the CEO, updated the composition of top managers and reduced their salaries by 30%, reduced the total number of personnel (by about 7%) and put emphasis on business in a new way - Acer began to pay more attention to the most profitable products and growing areas such as cloud computing and wearable electronics.
All this allowed Acer to improve its financial position and strengthen its position in the global computer industry. According to IDC analysts for 2014, shipments of Acer-branded desktops and laptops decreased by 1.6% (to 24.1 million units), while the global PC market fell a little more - by 2.1% (to 308.6 million devices). Acer retained fourth place in the list of the largest vendors, behind Lenovo, HP and Dell.
2013
The abolition of the post of CEO, founder Stan Shih again headed the company
On November 21, 2013, Acer Corporation announced the resignation of President Jim Wong, who was supposed to take over the duties of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from January 2014.
The press service of Acer explained that Wong's resignation is due to unimportant financial results. When Wong was appointed to the role of successor in early November 2013, he revealed that he intended to improve the company's efficiency and strengthen its brand. However, analysts did not rule out a scenario in which he, among other things, loses his place.
On the same day, Acer also announced the election of Stan Shih as the new chairman of the corporation and the abolition of the CEO position. The responsibilities of the CEO were transferred to the chairman of the board or the president of the corporation, which will speed up the decision-making process.
The company intended to find a new president to take the place vacated by Jim Wong as soon as possible. Specific candidates were not named[13].
Q3 losses due to massive migration of customers to tablets
Taiwan's Acer - received a net loss of Taiwan $ 13.12 billion ($446 million) in the third quarter, which turned out to be worse than analysts' forecasts. For the same period of 2012, the company's profit amounted to 124 million Taiwan dollars. At a loss, they recorded, among other things, funds from the write-off of unsold devices and losses from a decrease in the capitalization of Acer subsidiaries - Packard Bell and Gateway.
The manufacturer's problems are associated with a general drop in sales of stationary computers and laptops on a global scale, which, in turn, is due to the growing popularity of tablets and not very successful sales of computers with new versions of Windows. Last quarter, the company was preparing to launch products based on the new operating system Windows 8.1, so it adjusted deliveries to the channel accordingly. This was one of the reasons for the operating loss, according to Acer.
2012: Russian leads new Acer region
On April 3, 2012, Acer announced the allocation of a new REET region (Russia, Eastern Europe and Turkey) in the EMEA structure . The new division will use the scale of Acer's presence in certain markets in the region in order to increase its share in others, increase the speed of the company's response to changes in the market and competitive environment, and allocate large groups of consumers to conduct targeted marketing campaigns.
Grigory Nizovsky became the head of the region as vice president of EMEA, who until 2009 served as commercial director of the Russian office of Acer.
The competence of the head of the region includes the implementation of corporate strategies, improving the level of corporate governance, developing business in dedicated markets and distribution channels, and introducing successful experience throughout the region. Grigory Nizovsky, who has been an employee of the European headquarters of Acer since October 2009, will also ensure the effective interaction of local representative offices with the functional units of Acer EMEA.
"The competitive resources for sustainable and profitable growth in the new region in 2012 will be the brand, geographical presence, diversification of distribution channels and our experience in managing them," said Grigory Nizovsky. I am also confident that we will be able to fully unlock the potential of a strong management team that has unique experience in both fast-growing and mature and highly competitive markets. Acer remains the only company in the region seriously represented in the key consumer market segments of laptops, netbooks, tablets and desktops and LCD displays at the same time. I also believe that the new line of mobile PCs, which we present in March - May 2012, will allow us to get the most out of the combination of our consumer knowledge and technological leadership in 2012. "
Grigory Nizovsky will also continue to serve as general manager of Acer's Middle East and Pakistan branch.
2011: Jim Wong takes over from Gianfranco Lanci of the company
- In January 2011, Acer representatives denied rumors that the company was going to abandon the release of netbooks in favor of tablets. The company said it takes into account changes in the computing device market and plans to cover both segments, offering consumers maximum choice.
- In April 2011, Acer replaced the global president: Jim Wong was appointed to replace Gianfranco Lanci, who had worked in this position since 2008.
- In 2011, Acer dropped one of its brands, eMachines. The fate of another brand under which the company sells its equipment - Packard Bell - is also unclear. Most likely, Acer will eventually have only one, its own, brand, said Gleb Mishin in February 2012.
2010: Record Revenue and Profit
According to preliminary results of operations in 2010, the company's consolidated revenue and operating profit reached record values, amounting to 629.7 billion Taiwan dollars ($19.9 billion) and 18.2 billion Taiwan dollars ($575 million), respectively.
Compared to 2009, revenue growth was 9.7% in Taiwan dollars and 14.2% in US dollars. Operating profit increased by 18.6% in national currency. Net profit amounted to 15.1 billion Taiwan dollars ($476 million). For comparison, in 2009, in fact, net profit reached 11.4 billion Taiwan dollars ($354 million).
In the IV quarter of 2010, the company was unable to reach the planned indicators. Acer's revenue for the three-month period amounted to 149.7 billion Taiwan dollars ($4.7 billion), having decreased compared to the IV quarter of 2009 by 11% in national currency and by 7.3% in US dollars. Operating profit decreased by 11.8% to 4.4 billion Taiwan dollars ($139 million). The results obtained at the end of the three-month period in the company are associated with the unfavorable economic situation in Europe.
According to preliminary estimates Gartner (January 2011), in 2010 Acer ranked second in the supply of personal computers to the global market. The company launched 45.3 million PCs, taking a market share of 12.9%. Compared to 2009, deliveries increased by 13.8%, but compared to a year earlier, Acer's share did not increase, which is due to higher growth rates Lenovo and. Toshiba The growth rate of Acer supplies coincided with the market average, which also amounted to 13.8%.
2008: Packard Bell & E-Ten Purchase
On September 1, 2008, Acer completed its acquisition of Taiwanese communicator manufacturer E-Ten.
In early 2008, Acer bought a 75 percent stake in PB Holdings, a company whose subsidiary is Packard Bell, for $45.8 million. Lenovo also fought for the possibility of acquiring Packard Bell, which such a purchase would strengthen its position in the European market, where Acer products are very popular.
Acer's 2008 capitalization was $149.09 billion. Turnover - $19 billion.
According to the results of the third quarter of 2008, the company ranked third in terms of sales of personal computers in the world with a share of 12.5% (Gartner).
2007: $710 million purchase of US Gateway
In 2007, Acer announced the acquisition of the third USA computer manufacturer in the market - the company - Gateway for $710 million.
Acer's operating profit is $310.17 million. Net income - $394.65 million
1980: Production of the first PCs with the support of the Government of Taiwan
In 1980, Multitech International began manufacturing Taiwan's first personal computers. According to a number of Western newspapers, the Taiwanese government, interested in creating its own computer industry, provided significant assistance to the company. However, the Acer management itself denies the presence of any government assistance to the company - except for "hot moral support."
