History
1994
The history of Yell.ru began in the 90s. The first Russian Yellow Pages were printed in Moscow in 1994 with a circulation of 50 thousand copies.
1997
In 1997, the project was sold to Deutsche Telekom. A year later, the Yellow Pages were sold to the Swedish business directory Eniro and the project was restarted - the year of the crisis in Russia was the birth of the company known as Yell.
A company called Eniro Rus-M began actively collecting and updating information about Russian companies. Eniro Rus-M produced several different editions of the Yellow Pages, including "Yellow Pages Moscow," "Contact SPB," "Contact Ural," "Contact Volga" and "Navigator."
2005
In 2005, the total circulation amounted to 1 million copies in Russia.
Around this period, the company launched the first version of the site and began to exchange the database with Yandex.
In 2005, on a row with high positioning of Yell pages in search results, Yandex used reviews to form its own ratings. Eniro Rus-M was awarded the Runet 2005 Award for its significant contribution to the development of the Russian Internet.
2006
The next chapter in the company's history is 2006, when Eniro sells Yellow Pages to the formed Kontakt East Holding.
Alexander Smolin, president of Eniro Rus-M, noted then: "Many companies claimed the position of the investor. We wanted to continue working with Swedish capital, as this is a reliable and long-term way of working. "
The business idea was based on investments in the intensive growth of Internet companies in combination with a proven Russian business model. In November 2006, Kontakt East shares received a quote on the First North exchange in Stockholm. By the beginning of trading, the company's shares rose 31.2%. At the same time, the Swedish investment company Kinnevik, estimated at $10 billion, became the main shareholder. Most investors are interested in Yell's online strategy.
"This attracts investors much more than the" paper catalog "and reference literature losing market share," said Sergey Tikhonov, investment director at Prof-Media.
2007
The development of the project continued with the acquisition in the summer of 2007 of YPI Yellow Pages Ltd, which publishes directories in St. Petersburg and Perm.
In October 2007, as an addition to the directory, the service was launched Avito.ru. Formed as part of the Yellow Pages, Avito has grown to the leading advertising portal in Russia and the third in the world.
2008
In 2008, the company with a staff of 800 people and coverage in Moscow, St. Petersburg and nine other regions, became the largest player in the directory market.
2011
The new era of Yellow Pages begins in 2011, when they decided to discontinue the publication and focus on the website Yell.ru. The name Yell comes from the English word "yellow", yellow, but as the birth certificate new "online of an era" of the company, was decided to change color of a brand for red.
The entire database is presented on the Yell.ru in a simple and accessible form. The main content, which is reviews, photos and videos, is designed to give the maximum amount of information about the company.
2013
In 2013, Yell.ru is the largest directory with more than 300 thousand reviews throughout Russia. From the summer of 2011 to the summer of 2013, the audience of Yell.ru grew from 200 thousand to 2 million users.
