As the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation organized the memorial portal

On October 16, 2015 Kraftway announced use of hardware solutions of the company during preparation for the celebration of the 70 anniversary of a victory. As the customer the Ministry of Defence (MD) of the Russian Federation, in anticipation of opening of the Internet portal about the fate of heroes of the First and Second world wars - "Memory of the people" (pamyat-naroda.ru) acted.

Project Tasks

For online access, storage and providing an enormous databank with hundreds of millions of records the customer needed the reliable hardware-software platform. During the electronic auction the supplier defines Kraftway company.

It was necessary to create a single universal platform for functioning of the Memory of the People resource and the created earlier archive systems "Memorials" and "People Feat". As they process the huge volume of personal data, the customer made special demands to security of the solution.

Project Progress

Specialists of the company carried out the analysis of a situation and proposed the solution on the platform of high-performance storage systems Kraftway Storage 400-16 with a total amount more than 1 PB, 10 protected Kraftway ISP lineup servers with the electronic lock, 16 Kraftway Credo workstations and a broad spectrum of the infrastructure equipment.

The offered concept represents the distributed system placed on two Moscow platforms - in Major computer center of MO and the MO Central archive.

The protected hardware and software system is capable to provide the round-the-clock failsafe access to the text and graphic information presented in the form of the scanned sheets from the personal record. Margin of safety of the solution such is that a system is capable to function at annual average loading of 200 user queries per second with increase up to peak value of 10  thousand requests per second which falls on February 23 and on May 9.

Considering a public response of the project and importance of smooth functioning of interactive services for citizens, especially in the run-up to the 70 anniversary of celebration, developers set for themselves the ambitious task - to provide data availability at the level of not lower than 99.9999% in a year.

For achievement of these indicators the decision is made - in major computer center of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation to install two completely identical storage systems of Kraftway Storage 400-16 consisting of SSD solid state drives, traditional hard drives of SAS and SATA. Each of storage systems of 415 TB and by means of functionality of dynamic data movement between types of disks allows to provide effective information storage and high performance.

In the Central archive of the Ministry of Defence delivered a hardware and software system:

• storage systems of Kraftway Storage 400-16 of 350 TB,
• the protected Kraftway servers and Kraftway workstations for employees of the organization.

Project Results

The complex serves as "the electronic copy" of traditional archive of materials, allows to load new materials in electronic form, executing a role of a test environment for the main segment located in major computer center.

Specialists of Kraftway performed works on creation of technology platforms for deployment of a system, installed SCS and equipment installation, primary setup, installation of operating systems and the application software.
