On October 8, 2016 the Softline company announced end of assessment of IT infrastructure of the Yaroslavl state university.

Project Tasks

In structure of the university 10 faculties work. In the customer's IT infrastructure five domains, 670 PCs under Windows and 40 Windows servers functioning at departments and in laboratories. The educational institution uses Microsoft DreamSpark subscription for providing to students and graduate students of free access to instruments of design and software development.

The IT service of university was faced by problems of determination of a status of infrastructure for its effective use, check of license compliance of software and risk minimization connected with data loss, cyberfraud, threat of leak of confidential information.

The management of university made the decision on SAM CyberSecurity project implementation. As the IT partner in the project selected Softline company.

Project Progress

For the analysis of IT infrastructure of the university experts of the contractor used solutions Microsoft MAP Toolkit and iTMan. Specialists Softline defined that the university - the holder of 53 contracts OLP and 3 contracts Microsoft DreamSpark of the Premium level (for faculties of mathematics, physics and information science).

The analysis of security of IT infrastructure of the university within SAM CyberSecurity was carried out on 20 competences. Following the results to each environment recommendations about risk management taking into account the used technologies, cybersecurity statuses are provided. Their execution will help to pass further to the commonly accepted practicians of security management.

Project Results

According to the results of inventory of program assets of the university, experts of the contractor created the report in which reflected data on the used software and the recommendation about optimization of management of its lifecycle.

In particular, the customer received the recommendation to consider the three-year agreement of Enrollment for Education Solution (EES) for universities for effective control of check of license compliance and purchases of software Microsoft. Experts Softline suggested educational institution to create a single technical platform under management Microsoft Windows Server that will allow to increase productivity of work of personnel to 40%, to improve controllability and to increase security of infrastructure.

The customer received recommendations about creation of educational laboratories in the territory of technical faculties for achievement of the maximum benefit from the used software delivered within DreamSpark subscription.

According to the results of the project experts of Softline provided to the customer the report with detailed recommendations about optimization of contents, support and further development of IT infrastructure. All this will allow to create the strategy of management of program assets that eventually will increase the level of a maturity of processes of SAM. We obtained the most complete information about program assets of our university and now we can develop and support IT infrastructure, minimizing financial and legal risks. The recommendations received during the SAM CyberSecurity project will become base when developing processes of security of IT resources.
