"East-West" completed upgrade of DWH

On January 31, 2017 the company Croc announced upgrade storage systems (DWH) to the company "East-West".

Project Tasks

The basic need in replacement of DWH by more productive is connected with need to optimize work and to provide continuous availability of an EWM system (Enterprise Warehouse Management, a warehouse management system) during completing of goods for shipment from warehouse when the number of transactions increases in a system.

During the periods of peak loads it is necessary to process as fast as possible the increased volume of transactions for acceleration of a logistics chain due to increase in data processing rate. Such loading influences work of other applications which need quick access to a disk: to reporting systems, forecasting and control of transport.

Project Progress

The complex project of CROC included audit of the operating storage infrastructure, delivery and commissioning of DWH, the subsequent service support and consulting on operation of storage system on the basis of flash-technologies.

Project Results

Migration from classical disk storage systems on high-performance all-flash arrays of Dell EMC Unity with the minimum response time provided to Vostok-Zapad company triple increase in productivity for processing of the increased number of transactions without delays.

The problem of competitive use of DWH as each application received necessary data processing rate is solved. With transition to solid state drives administration and service of storage became simpler, by 4 times the taken place in a data processing center was reduced.

For 7 years the CROC company provides service support of our corporate systems of data storage. Considering wide experience of specialists of CROC in maintenance of infrastructure of our company, we made the decision on joint development of technical solution and the program of updating of DWH. Implementation of Flash-storage by 3 times increased high-speed performance and stability of work of logistic IT systems, databases and virtual machines. The customer considered two scenarios: use of hybrid storage system when data are distributed between disk and solid state drives depending on the current loading and also option using only Flash-DWH. As a result calculation of cost of ownership and risk analysis showed that acquisition of solid-state storage systems optimum is suitable for tasks "East-West" and a choice was made for benefit of all-flash-arrays. Such solutions for data storage allow to provide business systems availability at the minimum response time. The fixed cost of annual technical support regardless of life of Flash-DWH became additional benefit.
