Merge to ECOMP
On February 27, 2017 announced Linux Foundation merge of the open ECOMP and Open Orchestrator Project projects in Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP).
According to the statement of the organization, this solution will promote consolidation of efforts of developers that there corresponds to the concept of Open Source[1].
Founders of ONAP the leading world companies in the field of network technologies: Amdocs, AT&T, Bell Canada, China Mobile, China Telecom, Cisco, Ericsson, GigaSpaces, Huawei, IBM, Intel, Nokia, Orange, Tech Mahindra, VMware and ZTE. For February 27, 2017 announced desire of participation in the project of firm: ARM, BOCO Inter-Telecom, Canonical, China Unicom, Cloudbase Solutions, Metaswitch and Raisecom.
According to the management of the organization, consolidation of two initiatives Open Source will allow community to take the best solutions from everyone, and joint efforts will create the open platform for automation of network and uniform architecture on the basis of open standards.
In the created community Linux Foundation will deal with issues of general management and membership. Board of governors will be responsible for business solutions and marketing, to provide interaction between participants. The technical committee will focus on development.
Open Orchestrator Project
For January 31, 2017 Open Orchestrator Project (OPEN-O) there is a system for consolidation of means of support of software-defined networks SDN (software-defined networking) and network virtualization of NFV (network functions virtualization).
On January 31, 2017 it became known of release of The Linux Foundation of the first version of Open Source-проекта OPEN-O (Open Orchestrator Project) of ver. 1.0. A problem of development — to create the system integrating means of support of software-defined networks SDN and network virtualization of NFV.
The product is focused on the enterprises of the industry of a telecom. Using a product the operator can implement end-to-end (end-to-end) support of the services started on the virtualized NFV infrastructure, to use SDN in parallel with networks of the previous generations[2].
Initiators of the project - the Chinese telecom companies among which there are China Mobile and Huawei. OPEN-O support the companies: Brocade, China Telecom, DynaTrace, Ericsson, Intel, ZTE, Canonical, Riverbed, Red Hat.
According to documentation, the main objective of OPEN-O — to create the open platform for orchestration of complex composite services on infrastructure of any networks, including SDN and with support of NFV.
The first release of OPEN-O is called by SUN. The project covers means of orchestration for global services, NFV and SDN. According to documentation, they can work atop SDN and in any other network environments which are present at the market. The offered mechanism supports complete lifecycle of work of services — from their development before setup, providing and operation.
Architecture of OPEN-O consider sufficient idle time:
- at the heart of the platform uniform mechanism of the general orchestration of work of network services,
- means of orchestration of global network services (GS-O),
- the mechanism of support of the virtualized applications and network functions in the NFV environment
- services of connection for SDN networks.
Contact with SDN/VFNM/VIM/EMS controllers is implemented via drivers, there is a mechanism of the general support of the platform, in particular, for service of a flow of messages.
For control of the mechanism the uniform graphic portal is used. Access to it is differentiated, separately for operators and users. There is a tool kit using which it is possible to prepare virtual functions for start and to service them in installation process.
According to the representative of research division of China Mobile, at the heart of future networks there will be first of all mechanisms SDN and NFV. That it became a reality, universal implementation of the corresponding mechanism of orchestration is necessary. With it will become possible to implement advantages of these mechanisms and to provide necessary automation level in use.
In version 1.0 tools for network integration are created, the automation equipment for setup and providing network services gained initial development. Own model of the normalized data is developed and the mechanism allowing to complement due to change of a data model the platform with new opportunities is implemented.
In version 1.0 the model of static detection of the conflicts is implemented, for their elimination the validation mechanism is provided. In future releases is going to continue development of architecture and to implement the mechanism of dynamic detection and elimination of the conflicts, to increase the platform delivery systems and embeddings of necessary tools for interaction with infrastructure solutions and program interfaces (API).
