History
1993-2015: The library operates the American Cultural Center
The American Cultural Center (AMS) was opened at the Library of Foreign Literature in Moscow in 1993. At the end of 1996, some of the library funds were thrown onto the street. Employees said they were following management's order to replace the old funds. But when some enthusiasts took some of the books to other libraries, they were accepted there without complaints about their appearance and condition. And the vacated space soon housed various departments of the American Cultural Center. The renovated premises against the background of general decline looked very extraordinary.
Employees of the American Cultural Center managed to quickly intercept the agenda of one of the most influential centers in the scientific and cultural life of the capital. And the funds that the state allocated for the development of the library after the dashing 1990s already worked to form the image of the American Cultural Cultural Center, which in fact became the "anchor tenant" of this project.
According to the reviews of partners and employees of the center, the American staff behaved roughly like a colonial administration with Hindus in the Victorian era. AMS in 2015 moved from the library premises to the building of the US Embassy and continues its work online for 2023.
