School No. 627 of Moscow experimented with technologies of virtual reality in educational process

On May 26, 2017 the Moscow Department of Information Technology and Samsung company announced a pilot project of use of technologies of virtual and augmented reality at the Moscow school No. 627.

The initiator of an experiment - Smart City Lab, division in structure of Department of information technologies. The training content is developed by Fascinating Reality and Visual Science companies[1].

Project Progress

Samsung - the technical partner of the project, provided school with three tens sets of virtual reality, including helmets Gear VR and smartphones Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Devices were used at lessons of physics and biology in the eighth and ninth classes.

Lesson of virtual reality, (2017)

Pupils performed virtual laboratory works and made the experiments which are not implemented in the conditions of a normal class - to measure the radioactive radiation of uranium by the Geiger counter. School students used the cursor to take devices in hand, and interacted with them, turning the head and using controls on a helmet. The technology of virtual reality helped pupils to see physical processes from within: for example, "start" the internal combustion engine and watch its action by.

Showed to school students the Electricity application, the pupil of the eleventh class from Khabarovsk Andrey Andryushchenko. Using a Gear VR helmet pupils were had to the virtual world where watched electric current in three environments: metal, liquid and gas. At the same time, pupils were not just passive observers of behavior of electrons, molecules or ions, switching on and off electric current, but "moved" together with particles, "moving" inside or out of environment limits.

At biology lessons, using technology of augmented reality, school students could see the additional information, for example, the device of the nervous, respiratory and digestive systems on the poster with the image of a frog. In virtual reality school students studied the structure of viruses, in particular, of the well-known Zika virus, in format 360 °.

Use in training of technologies of virtual reality — one of the main trends in modern education. Virtual reality allows to show visually the most difficult scientific processes and also not only to supply with the information on any phenomenon or a historical event, but also to show it with any extent of detailing and different scenarios. The Samsung company pays much attention to issues of education and makes a contribution to development of the innovation instruments of training. For us — a great honor to act as the technical partner of this project. It is sure, use of modern mobile devices of Samsung in educational process will give to the Russian school students an additional incentive to successful study.

Important task of the teacher — to make training fascinating and interactive. Technologies of virtual reality help to solve this problem. However it is only about the first experience — both the maintenance of a rate, and the mechanism will be improved using teachers.
