ControlEdge is the programmable logic controller (PLC).

Expansion of connectivities and input-output of ControlEdge
On June 29, 2018 the division "Industrial automation" announced Honeywell corporations release of upgraded version of a PLC of ControlEdge which will allow to increase performance and to reduce total ownership cost due to expansion of connectivities and flexibility of design. Thanks to several PLC functions customers will be able to select from bigger number of the third-party systems and instrumentations and also to take advantages of additional resources of design.
Honeywell is the industry-first company which offered the full-fledged ecosystem including a PLC, the system of dispatching control and data collection (SCADA) and distributed control system (DCS). The programmable logic controller of ControlEdge is equipped with the following updated functions for further cutting of costs for setup, integration and support:
- Server and the client EtherNet/IP – provide integration with a broad spectrum of modules of input-output, disk storage modules, devices and controllers with support of EtherNet/IP from different suppliers.
- The module of the serial interface – provides support of Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII and non-standard user protocols.
- Enhanced capabilities of input-output – reduce costs and increase flexibility by development of systems.
- Possibilities of LEAP – the technique of LEAP helps to lower project risks by means of rational approach to project implementation. Enhanced capabilities of LEAP mean access to cloud design on the basis of the virtual platform of development Honeywell for modeling which supports design, training and testing without use of hardware.
- The improved integration with an APCS of Honeywell Experion PKS – the built-in diagnostic screens for new modules of input-output and the module of the serial interface.
ControlEdge RTU certification
On June 20, 2018 the Honeywell corporation announced that the controller of telemechanics ControlEdge Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) received the certificate of ISASecure Embedded Device Security Assurance (EDSA) of level 2. The assessment was carried out by independent certified laboratory exida. Such aspects as compliance of the device and a cycle of its development to applicable standards, reliability of data exchange, functional safety and safety of software development were estimated.
As noted in Honeywell company, the certificate confirms efficiency of functions of cyber defense of the controller of telemechanics of ControlEdge RTU which is used in remote control systems and automation, for example, for monitoring of wells in the oil and gas industry. According to results of tests of exida, RTU showed "lack of the known vulnerabilities for cyberthreats, resistance to network attacks and compliance to the security requirements ISASecure EDSA of level 2".
Certifications of level 2 unlike level 1 confirms existence of additional protection, including ensuring confidentiality and integrity of the stored and transmitted data, detection of unauthorized changes and additional measures of protection from the attacks like "failure in service". Besides, certification of level 2 requires steadier and safe development cycle.
The controller of telemechanics of Honeywell helps to manage the difficult distributed equipment of industrial facilities, transforming data of different automation systems to valuable information on the basis of which it is possible to make efficient decisions. ControlEdge Transition release
The Honeywell company provided on June 19, 2018 the tool for fast and simple upgrade of outdated PLCs (programmable logic controllers) developed by division "Industrial automation".
The ControlEdge Transition application is developed for risk reduction, connected with obsolescence of a production infrastructure, and designed to help to increase error-free running time of the equipment and to protect industrial facilities from cyberthreats.
The fast automated procedure of conversion implemented in ControlEdge Transition supports transition to a PLC on the Honeywell ControlEdge platform who then can be integrated into the SCADA system or distributed control system. Besides, the high speed and conversion efficiency saves time of system integrators and design engineers and also allows to reduce the cost and risks in comparison with accomplishment of such transition manually, specified in the company.

The ControlEdge Transition application which can be installed on mobile devices reveals and registers the outdated PLCs exploited on an industrial facility and also collects the accompanying data which can be used for the correct planning of upgrade. The functions of preparation of commercial offers and engineering reports implemented in the application can simplify their development and cut labor costs of engineering personnel by half. Besides, the reports made before upgrade provide support of design, installation and commissioning of new PLCs, underlined in Honeywell.

ControlEdge RTU
The division "Industrial automation" announced Honeywell corporations in November, 2017 release of the new version of the terminal controller ControlEdge (RTU) with functions of measurement of a gas rate and liquid. In the latest version of a product expanded support of the HART protocol is also implemented that allows to simplify commissioning and diagnostics of devices.
Function of electronic measurement of an expense provides commercial accounting of liquids according to indications of the section 21.2 managements of American Petroleum Institute (API). The new version of the controller is designed to increase efficiency of remote control assets due to support of two functions of measurement of an expense. It also allows operators to automate check and commissioning of guidance loops, to reduce number of input/output devices with hardware connection and to expand diagnostics of devices.
ControlEdge RTU represents the next generation of controllers of Honeywell in which ample opportunities of industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) are used. It allows to reduce time of control and diagnostics of the equipment from several hours to read minutes and to considerably accelerate setup process. The controller is expected arduous operating conditions and intended for fast installation on remote objects for the purpose of the solution of such tasks as monitoring and control of the borehole equipment, data collection, measurement of a gas rate, automation of shut-off valves, control of pumps and compressors and also water supply and sewage treatment. Thanks to the built-in possibility of reservation this controller supplements the C300 controllers and the platform of series C used in an APCS of Honeywell Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS), thus, allowing to create completely integrated solution.
Certification of exida
On August 31, 2017 the division "Industrial automation" announced Honeywell companies that the programmable logic controller (PLC) of ControlEdge developed by it received the certificate of ISASecure Embedded Device Security Assurance (EDSA) of the second level from exida accredited according to ISO 17065 of the certified center which carried out the assessment. The certificate confirms integrity of both the PLC, and lifecycle of its development. For its receiving the device passed strict tests of reliability of data exchange and also check of functional security and safety of development process of the software.
The certificate of ISASecure of the second level, in addition to opportunities of the first level, is confirmed by existence of such additional functions of security as confidentiality and integrity of the stored and transmitted data, detection of unauthorized changes and additional protection against the attacks causing failure in service.
The controller of Honeywell conforming to requirements of ISASecure has expanded functions among which — safe loading for prevention of transfer of the unauthorized software and a built-in firewall. Means of exchanging data of a PLC can also be protected using the IPSec protocol to prevent the attacks like "people in the middle" and unauthorized access.
The ISASecure program was developed by Institute of compliance to regulations of security of ISA (ISCI) on the basis of a number of the ISA/IEC 62443 standards for the purpose of increase in cyber security of industrial automation systems and management.
ISASecure EDSA is the first of three programs of certification offered ISCI. The approach to sharing of the distributed control systems (DCS) and PLC used by Honeywell allows to simplify integration and to reduce costs for the project. It is reached at the expense of seamless integration of RSU with a PLC, collecting devices and data transmissions, management tools of KIP on the basis of the HART protocol and also with new ChMI on the basis of the PC. Such combination of solutions allows to minimize also idle times at the expense of the unified support and also to reduce total ownership cost by prolongation of a system lifecycle. In addition, the PLC of ControlEdge provides the open platform prepared for implementation of industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and uses as the protocol of communication of OPC UA.
Release
On June 27, 2017 the Honeywell company announced release of the version of the programmable logic controller (PLC) of ControlEdge. In combination with distributed control system of Honeywell Experion (RSU) this PLC allows to cut down project expenses and labor costs on integration of systems and the equipment, to increase security and availability at the expense of the improved protection against cyber attacks on industrial facilities.
The programmable logic controller of ControlEdge is created on the basis of the open platform compatible to technologies of industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Using architecture of OPC Unified Architecture (UA) as the protocol of communication, the platform helps users to process more effectively data of assets[1].
The PLC is focused on use in different automation systems of production, for example, at the level of control of the equipment and devices. Developers position a PLC as a product of the next generation of family of ControlEdge controllers. In RSU Experion and a PLC of ControlEdge the general platform of the human-computer interface (HCI) is used that provides quick entry in operation of KIP and expands possibilities of diagnostics of devices.
In addition to considerable cutting of costs for integration when using together with the Experion system, the ControlEdge controller helps to reduce time of idle times thanks to the unified support, to reduce risks of security by means of the built-in means of cyber defense and to reduce total ownership cost due to increase in a system lifecycle.
