LG Robot guide

Product
Developers: LG Electronics
Date of the premiere of the system: 2017
Technology: Robotics

On July 21, 2017 LG started in the territory of the international airport Incheon in the test mode several robots for assistance to the arriving and leaving travelers. The robot guide plies on the airport building, providing information and the help to passengers whereas the cleaner helps to keep floors of his halls clean.

Starting the robots at one of the largest and most loaded airports of the world, the LG company will be able to offer the services to about 57 million people visiting him annually. And though officially robots were started in the test mode only since July 21, 2017, they are familiar to frequenters of the airport since February, 2017 when at the airport Incheon their beta testing began. Engineers of LG carried out setup of robots for the last five months, improving their efficiency on the basis of data retrieveds and experience.

Thanks to the platform of recognition of a voice from LG the robot guide understands four languages which are most often used at the airport - Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese – and can provide to passengers the necessary verbal assistance. The robot can be connected to the central server of the airport to transfer from it information on landing time of airplanes, a location of restaurants, shops and other data. Having scanned the boarding pass, the robot guide can accompany the late or lost passengers to the necessary boarding gate.

For service of zones of public and commercial appointment, the robot cleaner uses such opportunities of the LG HOM-BOT vacuum cleaner as effective cleaning of premises, autonomous navigation and capability to avoid collisions with obstacles. This robot is capable to define the sections requiring frequent cleaning, to save the information about them in the database and to calculate the most effective route for movement.
