Honda E2-DR

Product
Developers: Honda Motor
Date of the premiere of the system: 2017
Technology: Robotics

At the International conference on intelligent robots and systems (IROS 2017) which took place in Vancouver, the Honda company showed a prototype of the E2-DR robot. E2-DR is intended for assistance in case of natural disasters. The robot can move, walk independently upstairs and move on blockages.

Honda provided the E2-DR robot for work in dangerous conditions

Height of Honda E2-DR is 1.68 m, width of 25 cm, and weight – 85 kg. The li-ion cell with a capacity of 1000 W allows the machine to work independently within an hour. E2-DR is capable to sustain 20 minutes in a rain, dust and temperatures from-10 to 40 °C. E2-DR can rise if loses balance.

One of drivers of fast development of robotics and autonomous systems is security. In emergencies and natural disasters at the plants or power plants first of all the people taking the first response measures are subject to risk.

Therefore robotics capable to work in the conditions of blockages and chemical pollution is extremely demanded. In 2013, after accident on Fukushima Plant in Japan, the Honda company started development of the biped robot capable to sustain influence of such environment. Two years later the company issued two documents which are in detail describing plans of the company for development of robots for work in a zone of disasters.
