2021: Start of serial production of Sophia robots

At the end of January, 2021 Hanson Robotics announced serial production of Sophia androids. At the first stage four modifications will be marketed. Robots will begin to roll off the production lines in the first half of the year, all in a year several thousands of copies are going to sell.

Serial production of the first Sophia android begins

Hanson Robotics will deliver robots first of all for fight against COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. In particular, Sophia will take temperature using the thermal imaging camera and to do morning exercises for elderly people.

Professor of social robotics Johan Horn whose research included work with Sophia, told that though the technology still is in rather rudimentary status, the pandemic can accelerate development of human relations and robots.

The world of COVID-19 will need the increasing and bigger automation that people were in security — David Hanson, the founder and the chief executive of Hanson Robotics told, commenting on the preparing mass production of robots.

Hanson expressed confidence that robotic solutions for fight against a pandemic are not limited to health care, but also can help clients with such industries as retail and airlines. According to him, Sophia robots are unique the fact that they are similar to people — it can be very useful in those days when people are lonely and socially isolated.

The cost of the robot and the planned production volumes in the company by the end of January, 2021 do not open.^[3]

2017: The robot Sofia obtained citizenship

Saudi Arabia became the first country of the world which issued nationality to the robot with artificial intelligence.
