Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) is a complex of security systems in the Toyota cars. From 2015 to 2017 in the world more than 5 million cars Toyota with  a packet of the systems of active security of Safety Sense are sold, and in Europe the share of such cars reached 92%. Thanks to this complex the quantity of cases of zoom-in behind decreased  50%.

Structure of a complex

The structure of a packet of Toyota Safety Sense can differ  depending on  features of the region. So,  TSS for the Russian market include the system of automatic switching of a driving beam on  near, the warning system about  inadvertent intersection of a road marking, an alerting system about  threat of frontal collision with  function of automatic braking, the system of recognition and  informing the driver on  road signs, a control system and  informing on  fatigue of the driver and  a cruise control with  function of maintenance of a safe distance to  ahead the going car.

2017: Recognition of pedestrians at night

In December, 2017 Toyota announced the updated system of active security Toyota Safety Sense (TSS). The main innovations are connected with adaptation of technology to night-time.

The Toyota cars learned to distinguish cyclists and pedestrians at night

The second generation of TSS has more advanced computer controlled, the improved camera and  the radar which allowed to expand functionality of alerting systems about  threat of frontal collision (PCS) and  the notification about  inadvertent intersection of a road marking (LTA).

Cars with the updated TSS complex are capable "distinguish" potential threats of the road accidents more precisely. For example, the alerting system about  threat of collision of the second generation allows to define existence ahead of the going car at      a speed from 10 to 180 km/h  and  if necessary to apply function of automatic braking.

The TSS system learned to distinguish pedestrians and cyclists at night. A system about inadvertent intersection of a road marking received function of deduction of the car in  the center of a band and recognition the roadside even not marked, says Toyota.

The Toyota cars learned the region of the carriageway without marking.

Cars with Toyota Safety Sense of the second generation will begin to be on sale in 2018.[1]
