2017: Development of unmanned vehicles

In December, 2017 it became known of intentions of Honda to develop own unmanned vehicle. The partner in this project the Japanese company selected the Chinese SenseTime.

The agreement of Honda and SenseTime is expected five years. By 2020 the companies are going to provide the self-governed machine created jointly. Nothing is announced its expected characteristics.

Within the research project partners will carry out joint tests of SenseTime technologies for recognition of moving objects and algorithms of Honda on monitoring of a road situation, forecasting of risks and planning of further actions. The technology of autonomous driving which will make pilotless trips possible in city conditions should become a result of work.

Though Honda only begins development of the robomobile, the company already showed some results of the work in this direction. So, the version of the Acura RLX sedan with an auto pilot which independently came out to the highway from the back road was shown, passed several miles and overcame several brisk outcomes.

That prototype of the pilotless machine received two radar stations of average and distant ranges, a stereocamera and a lidar. These systems are used for three-dimensional mapping of the area.

According to plans Honda, the company will release self-driving motor transport on public roads by 2025.

SenseTime develops technology which uses the artificial intelligence (AI) for fast identification and the analysis of distinguishers of the personality using cameras. It was applied during limited testing the Chinese authorities to tracking and detention of suspects of the airports and venues of festivals. Clients of SenseTime is among about 40 local government authorities of China (data for 2017).[1]
