Biography

Andrey Vladimirovich Varichev was born on December 25, 1967.

In 1991 graduated from aviamechanical faculty of the Moscow aerotechnical institute of K.E. Tsiolkovsky (MATI).

1991 - 2001: held executive positions at a number of the Russian metallurgical enterprises of Russia (Interural Ltd and JSC NTMK).

2001 - 2002: the associate director, and then – sales managers for export of TD Nosta-OXMK LLC.

2003 - 2004: the first deputy sales manager of Ural Steel LLC.

Since 2004 – the deputy CEO for business concerns of Ural Steel LLC.

2005: CEO Mikhailovsky GOK

2005 - 2006: CEO of JSC Mikhailovsky GOK.

2005 - 2006: deputy CEO of Metalloinvest Ltd for business concerns.

2006 - 2008: commercial director of Metalloinvest Management Company LLC.

2008 - 2009: the First Deputy CEO of Metalloinvest Management Company LLC.

2009: CEO of Metalloinvest Management Company

From February to June, 2009 – the CEO of Metalloinvest Management Company LLC.

2020: Death from pneumonia

On April 27, 2020 it became known of Andrey Varichev's death. The head of Metalloinvest died from pneumonia, TASS with reference to the press secretary reports the governor of Kursk region Roman Starovoyt Anastasia Gurina.

Andrey Varichev

Earlier  the Forbes magazine  announced Varichev's death with reference to a source in the management of Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. According to the interlocutor, the top manager of one of the largest mining and metallurgical holdings of Russia died in one of private clinics in Moscow in the afternoon on April 27, 2020. Varichev had a bilateral pneumonia, in recent days he was connected to the medical ventilator, he specified. Two tests for COVID-19  yielded negative result, the acquaintance of family reported the edition. 

At the time of Andrey Varichev's death he was 52 years old.

The last interview of Varichev was published by Kommersant on April 10, 2020. In it Varichev said that Metalloinvest began to react to the outbreak of a coronavirus at the beginning of March, but cannot suspend work at all as this enterprise of a continual loop. Varichev added that the operational staff of Metalloinvest round the clock monitors a situation and implements measures for protection of employees and their families.
