At the end of June, 2018 it became known of the large contract signed between producer of the medical equipment Medtronic and the U.S. Department of Defense. Order cost is from $471.5 million. The maximum amount to depend on durations of the contract which the parties will approve in the course of work.
Under the terms of the agreement, Medtronic will deliver to the Pentagon of the device for support of a cardiovascular system at the fixed prices. At the same time volumes of shipments, types of deliverable devices and terms are not called. It is known only that the basic contract is signed for one year with a possibility of prolongation on four. Completely the parties should fulfill the obligations by July 1, 2023.
The Pentagon buys the equipment and services of Medtronic for army, navy, the Air Force, marines and federal civil agencies. And the company became the only winner of the state tender.
The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support organization which is based in Philadelphia (State of Pennsylvania) acts as the direct customer. The place of execution of the order is the State of Minnesota in which there is Medtronic headquarters.
The American Ministry of Defence is an old partner of Medtronic. Besides, the company cooperates with security agencies and in other countries, including in Russia. Among the Russian clients the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Internal Affairs appear.
The Pentagon actively buys and develops medical equipment for use in divisions under control of it. In 2018 the Ministry of Defence agreed with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the fact that the regulator in the field of health care will quicker approve the devices and medicines intended for the military personnel.[1]
