Rubius "turned" the Tomsk state university into Hogwarts through Vuforia

As it became known, at the beginning of September, 2018 in the University grove of the Tomsk state university the monument to founders of university — to "Professors V.M. Florinsky and D.I. Mendeleyev from grateful Siberians" was open. Specially to this event of Rubius with assistance of laboratory of virtual and augmented reality TGU developed the TSUniverse application.

Having started the application on the smartphone and having pointed its camera at a monument, it is possible to see how looked a campus of university at the beginning of the 20th century. And also to look at original constructions and to admire the horse droshkies passing on a university grove.

Also by means of the application everyone will be able to get acquainted with the history of creation of TGU, to learn about Mendeleyev and Florinsky's role in formation of the university. Besides, having guided the smartphone at the TGU logo, users will also be able to see a 3D model of a campus of the beginning of the 20th century.

Augmented reality appeared also in Professors of the Tomsk University gallery. It is possible to approach any portrait interesting you and, using the smartphone with the Rubius application, to learn about the scientist's life, his scientific way and achievements, to get access to photos from archive of the university. Five portraits have "expanded" content – at guidance of the smartphone they "come to life" and can nod, wink and smile.

When implementing the solution, the Rubius company used Vuforia – the platform for creating applications of augmented reality for phones and tablets on operating systems iOS and Android. Vuforia provides interfaces programming of applications in languages C++ Java, Objective-C, and .Net through integration with the game engine Unity.
