Vuforia is the platform of computer vision for mobile devices.
2016: Vuforia v.6
On October 17, 2016 the PTC company announced an exit of Vuforia of version 6.
Vuforia 6 includes VuMark — the visual tag providing access to AR content of any product or an object. The upgraded version of the platform is compatible to glasses of virtual reality Microsoft HoloLens and tablets on Windows 10 basis that helps to meet the growing demand for AR technologies in a corporate segment.
VuMark is developed taking into account needs of designers, without binding to need of identification of objects (for example, the barcode). VuMark Designer helps users of Adobe Illustrator to create the coded images on the basis of the existing graphic and other elements of the corporate style of brands, for example logos. By means of it it is possible to develop the markers fitting into design of an object at the same time coding any data types, like serial number or the URL address.
Vuforia Engine supports Universal Windows Platform (UWP) now that helps Unity-developer to expand a scope of the existing projects created on the basis of the Vuforia platform: combine them with glasses of virtual reality Microsoft HoloLens and such models of tablets, Surface Pro 4 as well as Surface Book. By means of tool kit Microsoft Visual Studio developers can add functionality of AR to existing applications UWP for tablets.
At the moment we achieved two key goals of our mission for democratization of technologies of augmented reality. First, we gave the chance to producers and marketing specialists to add AR content to any product using VuMark. Secondly, thanks to support of Windows 10 and Microsoft HoloLens we can offer developers new opportunities for satisfaction of the growing need for solutions of augmented reality of the corporate level. For developers it is a high time to begin to work with AR now. Jay Wright, president and CEO of Vuforia company |
2015: Vuforia
Applications using digital means perceive visions from the physical world and create interactive experience of interaction of users with the world around. For October 15, 2015 the Vuforia platform is supported by a global ecosystem of developers in 130 countries and used more than in 20 thousand applications installed on more than 200 million devices in the world.
Representation of Vuforia (2015)
As a part of a framework the tools of software developer of augmented reality (Software Development Kit — SDK) for mobile devices developed by Qualcomm company. Vuforia uses technologies of computer vision, tracking of flat images and simple three-dimensional real objects in real time. In version 2.5 Vuforia recognizes the text, from version 2.6 has an opportunity to distinguish cylindrical markers[1].
The possibility of registration of images allows developers to locate and focus virtual objects, such as 3D models and media content, together with real images when viewing via cameras of mobile devices. A virtual object is guided on a real image so that the point of view of the observer concerned them equally for achievement of the main effect — feeling that a virtual object is a part of the real world.
Vuforia supports different 2D - and 3D - types of targets, including bezmarkerny Image Target, three-dimensional targets of Multi-Target and also the fiducial markers selecting in a scene objects for their recognition. Additional functions include detection of barriers using so-called "Virtual buttons" ("Virtual Buttons"), detecting is more whole also an opportunity to programmatically create and reconfigure the purposes within the self-modified code.
Vuforia provides application programming interfaces in languages C ++, Java, Objective-C, and .Net through integration into the game Unity engine.
SDK supports development of native AR-applications for iOS and Android, at the same time assuming development in Unity which results can be postponed for both platforms. The applications of augmented reality created on the Vuforia platform are compatible to a broad spectrum of devices, including iPhone, iPad, smartphones and tablets on Android from version 2.2 and the processor, since architecture of ARM v6 or 7 to a possibility of carrying out calculations from a floating comma.
