2018: Demonstration of the smart intersection
At the beginning of October, 2018 the Japanese car maker Honda showed work of the "smart" intersection. The technology under the name Smart Intersection constructed on the basis of communications of V2X prompts to participants of traffic about dangers on the road crossing. The company claims that it is about one of the first practical applications of the V2X system.
The smart intersection is developed in the city of Merisvill (the State of Ohio, the USA) within the pilot project of 33 Smarts Mobility Corridor directed to expansion of functionality of automobile sensors for the purpose of prevention of road accident. At intersections in the USA there are about 40% of all car accidents. Every year road accidents claim about 35 thousand lives in the country, and at intersections about 20% of people from this number perish.
Engineers of Honda mounted the special cameras on four traffic light columns located on one of intersections of streets in Merisvilla. This equipment complemented with antennas for data transmission will recognize machines, pedestrians and other objects at distance to 100 meters.
A system controls a situation at the intersection and notifies on possible dangers — for example when the car of ambulance at great speed approaches the intersection or the pedestrian is going to cross the road with abuse of regulations.
During testing of Honda equipped cars of the employees with translucent projected displays on which danger warnings of collision or hit in a stopper are output.
The Smart Intersection technology using corporate software for object recognition from Honda, the camera at intersections and V2X-communication allows cars to see literally through buildings and walls and also around them practically in any weather to recognize and warn drivers about the different hidden dangers, said in the press release of Honda.[1] |
